Just one man's opinion, but I am a little bit disappointed that Olivia Chow has not been able to build a movement that gets people excited. I'm glad that people rejected Bradford, but it's hard to get excited for Chow's vision, or even clearly describe what it is.

It really seems like American voters would've been ok with quite a bit of shameless corruption on the part of Trump and his cronies, if they'd kept gas prices low. But cartoonishly extreme corruption and a pointless war in the middle east is a bit too far for the median American voter.

With more than 520,000 votes earned and a few polls still left to count, Olivia Chow will be elected with the largest raw vote total of any mayor since Toronto’s amalgamation in 1998. (Many more people in the city since Mel Lastman’s days, of course.)

Steven Del Duca has received 81% of the vote in his campaign to be re-elected as mayor of Vaughan, which has really gotta hurt if you're Bonnie Crombie.

"Trending" is not a thing. The result is locked in. They are just counting ballots in an arbitrary order. Any sense of momentum or trajectory is trying to impose narrative onto statistical noise.

It's ok. Take your time reporting the votes, guys. We know it takes time. It's not like we saw you scanning the ballots in real time when we were at the polling station earlier today.

Maybe this makes me a bad journalist but I’m coming around to the idea that we should just tell everyone the results once everything is counted the next day

Quick reminder: As of right now, the result of the election is locked in. Politicians don't "pull ahead" or "catch up." It's just the arbitrary way that the ballots are counted and reported.

Ontario breaking with the longstanding tradition of giving party leaders a mayoralty as a consolation prize, after they fail miserably at the provincial level.

I dont know if it's because they love republicans and want them to win but holy crap is this an embarrassment. the equivalent of reckless disregard in terms of journalism fuck ups. Just the simplest damn googling.

Lotta people have fond memories of Walter Koenig from his role in Star Trek, but I will always remember him as one of the most evil motherfuckers ever to appear on a television screen.
