Whilst today is a particularly good day to tell far-right and authoritarian politicians to go fuck themselves, we should also remember that *every day* is a good day to do exactly that.

The lack of a spike in the data for '21 is genuinely shocking to me. It's an inflection point, but doesn't look out of trend with the previous years

Seems like it should be part of the "are phones ruining the kids" debate that every marker of teen mental health has improved since 2021 www.cdc.gov/yrbs/youth-h...

1/23 Sorry, this will be long... There is a lot of shouting about what happened in the Channel yesterday. So I want to go back to basic law. Not immigration policies or political rhetoric. At sea, the starting point is simple: Preservation of life comes first under all maritime conventions.

Emma Yeomans@yeomans.bsky.social

Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics. A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

one of my proudest moments was being told by a former Gove staffer that he once angrily proclaimed: "I am NOT an eldritch horror!" in a team meeting, because of me.

The War Game, Sky's terrifying new docu-drama, which paints a haunting picture of a near-future scenario in which the Prime Minister is somehow now Michael Gove

I'm seeing far too much politics at the moment that comes across as "I want things to get worse now so they'll get better faster afterwards (once the right people have been punished)" and I don't understand why people think it's an uncontroversial opinion

This German comedy sketch (with English subtitles) perfectly captures so much of what is going on right now in the UK, the US, and across Europe. "Playing the 'Nazi Card' in the Third Reich", by Browser Ballett.

The film is 1000% obviously (to me, a cis white man) about accepting people for who they are, not who they need to pretend to be. It may not be explicitly about trans rights (it could be an analogy for any mistreated minority), but it clearly fits!

Trans Rights are Human Rights@transgender-rights.bsky.social

K-Pop Demon Hunter's Rumi is extremely trans coded. (And Mira and Zoey are CPTSD and Neurodivegent coded, respectively.) She's ashamed of her body and she's hiding herself... "Why can't you love all of me?" Demons aren't real. Trans people are real. Which is the movie actually about?

My proposed party political broadcast, for anyone who wants it: "Do you want to see a Confederate statue in Piccadilly?" "Want to call that raggedy-ass Trump your king?" "You want your children to sing 'The Star Spangled Banner'?"

I'm trying to remain positive about the world by drawing positive conclusions from posts I read on here, but there's some real stupidity in my feed. Here goes.. Freedom has become normalised enough that a number of people no longer see it as something to be proud of, just normal. And that's awesome!

Reminiscent of my favourite version of the (apocryphal?) quote: "Democracy is the worst form of government, apart from all the other ones"

It's time again! Cis allies: if you can, please consider being chaff for us. Toilet hobbycops think like 10% of people are trans, and to overturn our segregation we need respectable cis people causing trouble on our behalf. Please wear a trans flag pin. Get in good trouble, as John Lewis put it.

Wretched Jester Fuckup@jackalpants.bsky.social

THE CHAFF PROJECT Hi! Are you cis in the UK and you'd like to support trans rights? Great! How: buy a trans flag pin and wear it in public. Why: chaff is an overwhelming amount of false positives so that when a missile gets close to the plane, it hits the chaff and not the plane.

With only a handful of exceptions, if someone is titled "The Emperor" in media, it's probably fair to assume they're a villain of some kind

Hobbies! As I look at my bookshelf with a wide range of wargames, or my miniatures covering a vast range of settings (sci-fi, fantasy, historical), all of which are far higher quality than even 20 years ago. Hobbies are more accessible, often more affordable, and easier to find communities in

If you've accidentally used a term that someone finds offensive (even if it isn't offensive in your usual dialect/context/whatever), don't try to justify the mistake, just APOLOGISE AND DON'T USE THE TERM! God, people can be idiots sometimes...

It's not where I'd want him in government (I'd either want him as Chancellor or staying in Energy), but if Trump's against it, then that's a positive in my books!

I have now watched one (1) game at this world cup. What's the hype about this England team? Go 1-0 up and park the bus for the last 20-25.minutes seems to be a very reliable way to lose

Before the WC (I think), I saw an amusing piece about how political leanings indicate Ronaldo Vs Messi leanings. It turns out that left-leaning people are more likely to favour the one who provides more benefits to his wider team!

I did it I wrote the article wish me luck Lionel Messi is the GOAT, Ronaldo is not, why just about every statistical analyst agress www.expectinggoals.com/p/messi-rona...
