It’s the last day of the year, so it’s a sort of #caturday, right? It’s my last chance to come out as a #catdad in 2025: Say hi to Theo!

This must be satire. I am really not anti-AI but if you need AI to come up with “the impossible task” of listing three points on what makes *your own child* special, you do deserve the robot apocalypse.

I suspect we'll continue seeing ports of basically all #compiler / static analysis tools as that problem space tends to be really well suited for #AI development. Comprehensive golden test cases and performance gates ensure you don't regress. Beyond that, the code is purely fungible.

Really wanted to see THE movie now, but it's premiering at the Stockholm film festival in a month. Turns out you CAN'T see everything. :(

We asked ourselves what we wanted the future of web development looked like. Instead of asking what AI can do, we asked: What do we want it to do? And what will we always want to do by hand? The result is a product that is still Nordcraft at its core, but feels like whole new tool!

We have been quiet for a while... This is why.

To grow the ATproto network, Bluesky has to grow a lot more. If Bluesky doesn't grow, it's just gonna disappear. It's not like Mastodon, which is perfectly happy to stay small. If Bluesky doesn't grow, it is going to die alongside the network.

Nothing Bluesky PBC does matters if the Bluesky app fails to reach mainstream scale. And if it reaches mainstream scale, everything else, including monetization, is easy. So @toni.bsky.team here's your scorecard so far:

Small caps (including fake ones) are just one more casualty of this AI phase (wouldn't really call it an era).

“I have come to bluesky to post about how everyone should go back to Twitter and then when I get yelled at I go, see, it’s so unfriendly here” is exceedingly tiresome at this point

You don't have to think JPEG XL is the best format, or plan to use it, to understand that we all benefit when browser vendors are responsive to developer feedback. I'm sorry it took this long in Chromium, and while I'm unlikely to use this format in my own work, I'm happy we're adding options.

JPEG XL shipped in Chrome 155 today, try it out! Huge kudos to Luca and team for getting this done. Image codecs are cool in so many levels, and I'm super impressed by the people who make that magic happen. developer.chrome.com/blog/jpeg-xl...

You need to wet your AI properly, or this is what's going to happen

I don't like Tailwind (or utility-first CSS in general) but at least it gets something right: locality of behaviour. Component scoped styles (eg. Vue or Astro components) get both LoB *and* separation of concerns right. CSS-in-JS solutions get LoB right but go terribly wrong on the SoC side imho.

And if for some reason you think Tailwind suits agents better: lol it doesn't really matter for them. Utility-first CSS is just human-DX ergonomics, not necessarily as useful to LLMs (this is just based on personal experience, not quantitative data).
