Thread: that time the Brockton, MA police chased down one Black guy on an ebike with a helicopter.

Chris Dwan (he/him)@somershade.bsky.social

My eye was drawn to the ones named "Brockton" because, well, Brockton is not in Boston and I requested only protest surveillance in Boston. This was extra. This was optional. Did they screw up and include something juicy? Oh reader, did they ever. 3/?

In July, I took a ride through the Arizona desert with Verlon Jose, chairman of the Tohono O’odham Nation, a sprawling reservation on the U.S.-Mexico border that may soon be changed forever. It was the beginning of an investigation that ProPublica is publishing today. THREAD ⬇️

My tolerance for chaos is pretty high (probably too high), but standing kickscooters are *really* chaotic. Guy didn't yield at a stop sign and then swiveled to cross behind my bike and jump from the road to the sidewalk. Turn radius is too tiny, and hard to predict what line they will take.

jimmybot@jimmybot.com

I am pro-safe but unsanctioned mobility behaviors. Firetrucks blocking the bike lane so you're biking on the sidewalk? No problem. Idaho stop? Great. Biking wrong-way and pushing right-way cyclists into the car lane? Insanely anti-social and wrong.

For those who haven't heard yet, the Miami Herald's corporate owners at McClatchy today laid off the paper's superb veteran soccer reporter Michelle Kaufman. An utter disgrace, and an enormous disservice to fans of the local soccer team that draws a lot of media interest in town and worldwide.

Gobsmacked by the elite levels of not knowing ball in the Senate today, thinking an NBA team is called the Hawkeyes then, refusing to Google it, then accusing a guy of treason because you didn’t know the Iowa Lady Hawkeyes aren’t in the NBA. Somehow I don’t trust these people to Save Girls Sports.

I keep seeing the media talk about his conflicts of interest and like, are you new here? There are no conflicts. There is only one interest and it isn't the US.

The 700-stall parking garage was the number one ST3 priority for the City of Renton. If ST stays in budget, the garage will cost $143,000 per stall.

On Tuesday, NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced a $131.5 million settlement agreement with DoorDash for underpaying nearly 260,000 delivery workers. The settlement follows a years-long investigation that found DoorDash failed to pay thousands of workers for all the time they worked.

This aired just the once in 1998 on the live SNL show for which McKay wrote it. It was effectively banned as it never aired again. I wonder why. MEDIA-OPOLY

Trump is trading more stocks than every member of Congress COMBINED. This corruption is exactly why we need to pass my bill that would ban Congress AND the president from owning stocks. All elected officials need to be held accountable, especially the president.

Susan Sontag's 9/16/01 piece in The New Yorker got her crucified but it's one of the few things from that era that aged well. "'Our country is strong,' we are told again and again. I for one don’t find this entirely consoling. Who doubts that America is strong? But that’s not all America has to be."
