I’m sure if she tries two or three more times, she’ll be able to beat Doug Ford for Mayor of Hamilton.

Jonathan Goldsbie@goldsbie.bsky.social

Meanwhile in Hamilton, with 54% of polls reporting, incumbent Andrea Horwath is in a distant third:

This Election Season Season has been filled with a lot of high-tension, whiplash-inducing elections and frankly, it’s just too many elections. I feel we can agree to that.

Glad I got to see Digger in theatres. It's a stellar story whose own meta-plot elevates the story past mere satire to something so much more.

I love Wes Anderson and his films to death, but the meta-wrapping much of his movies have feel like conceits and vehicles to deliver the story. Digger's structure felt integral to making the movie work, but I get why they couldn't fit it in the trailers.

Put aside the economic stupidity of the Trump admin's Canada tariffs, the political stupidity is just unbound. The election is in less than two weeks. The cake is baked. No Maine voters are changing their mind because you exempted blueberry producers for a week.

I appreciate all the great political pressure from my fellow Canadians but, man, it sure it easy to go up against an enemy who threatens to shoot you, blows off their own toes when aiming at their feet, and whose solution is to put a band-aid on it and hope it heals.

We are XBOX. Please buy this $1,800 system that won’t have exclusives, that we ourselves have barely any teams working on anymore, and that you can just also run Steam on, like that cheaper computer you could also buy.

This is the ultimate problem. Who will US military-industrial complex firms sell to if there's even a perception of a possibility of a fabled Kill Switch? Uncle Sam can only pay so many of the bills.

CBS News used to be sponsored by Oldsmobile dealers so this just some RETVRN stuff.

Scoop from @brettlogiurato.bsky.social: CBS has sold its local election night coverage to DraftKings, stirring more controversy inside the David Ellison-owned company. Details in @status.news: www.status.news/p/cbs-draftk...

From prior reporting, the fall of BioWare is going to have to fall at the feet of both EA and BioWare management. But there was a sense that whatever commoditized and transactional future Kushner and the Saudis have in mind for EA, Edmonton‘s favourite studio never had a place in it.

I want to take this moment, once again, as the thing is in the news again. To everyone saying "Nationalize Starlink" I ask, why would the EU or Canada or any other nation trust you guys with Starlink? Just to have the next-next president threaten us with it?

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

They both did it, it was a joint effort, it’s one of the crazier things to happen in the national security space (which is really saying something) and every government should be scrambling to reduce dependence on—and as soon as possible get off—Starlink/shield or any Musk product, including the US.

Only caveat I'll put for the non-seperation questions is that you may have more rural-city divide (vs the seemingly broad support to stay in Canada) that that stuff may need to wait for way more ballots to come in before a judgement can be done.

Q1-4 are asking if they'd like to make Alberta an unattractive destination for international students and foreign talent and thus also for employers. (But make you think it's about refugees) Q5 is going to cause a lot of funny "But I could vote last time!" Tiktoks (but be rancid for democracy).

Andrew Kurjata@akurjata.ca

Eesh

Q1 is point blank asking "Would you like to commit economic suicide?" It's some bold strategy Cotton stuff. In typical fashion, too much airtime was given to the stupid Referendum Referendum and not enough to the real impacts of the other questions.

Lol at the separatism vote but a mixed bag on the 9. Seems all the constitutional questions are dead (as of now) with even the one to Abolish the Senate struggling for dear life.

Ah nice. The Axis Powers are meeting up to help their buddy end the war that he started and could end at any moment.

BREAKING WSJ: Vladimir Putin has proposed that he, Trump, and Xi Jinping meet next month to talk about Ukraine in an attempt to negotiate an end to the four-year conflict that would favor Moscow.

You Can See Everything is an odd documentary. It’s a well-made production and a hoot to watch in a packed theatre. But how do you judge a work of art that seems to conclude it probably didn’t or shouldn’t have been made?

The documentary feels both like the proto-Rehearsal and The Rehearsal S3 with [REDACTED] coming in midway and doing the Fielder Method, including getting too close to her subject‘s life. Like any good Rehearsal misadventure.

There’s definitely enough here throughout to get your mind guessing and second guessing motivations, so even if you exit the theatre with no clearer sense of who Elisabeth Holmes truly is, you will be in for a wild and brisk 3 hours.

I’m exhausted that every waking moment I’m online, someone is trying to sell me a product. So yes, this analogy works.

“The internet is a store but it used to be a library” hits me like a slug to the chest

I keep seeing a lot of people talk of nationalizing SpaceX as a way to stop the US government from blocking Ukraine’s access to Starlink and I feel it’s important to note that this would in no way do that and would actually remove all friction from this occuring again.

Genuine competition for the title of “Biggest piece of shit former cast member of NBC’s Chuck” I’m just kidding. It’s still Adam Baldwin.

Jake@waveturtlejake.bsky.social

It’s Paxtover

I’ve kept thinking back to Carney‘s NYT interview in September where Starlink was such an obvious national security risk for him, and Ukraine was a stated reason. “Starlink, we will diversify away from, no question.”

This post is unavailable.

Do you know how many times I thought about if or when the US and/or a billionaire owner might try to do some sort of disruption at scale? The blocking of ICJ judges’ Microsoft accounts but for a much larger ”enemy“ faction? It would be bad but also it would be suicide for any US service company.

Gotta appreciate that trademark American arrogance for this line of thinking so that, somehow, every Canadian who put a California Red to their lips couldn’t bring themselves to drink the local swill, just don’t think the French have their grape juice figured out, and have thus gone dry since 2025.

Sen. Adam Schiff@schiff.senate.gov

Without American wine on Canadian shelves, Canadians are also missing out on tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue they would obtain from selling our wine.

To give some credit, the Democratic Governor of Kentucky seems to be properly understanding who’s at fault for the fact Canadians aren’t buying bourbon anymore. So this isn’t a universal Dem problem, but it’s not good when it’s a wild blindspot for as prominent a senator as the one for California.

kentucky.comBeshear says trade war with Canada is impacting KY’s bourbon, coal industriesThe Kentucky governor asked President Donald Trump to end the trade war, citing damage to Kentucky’s major industries.

I don't think most Americans are even capable of understanding how stupid and tone deaf this is from Schiff.

Stuff like this is why the Canadian political establishment is (correctly, IMO) assuming that Democrats can NOT be trusted to return the bilateral relationship to the status quo ante going forward.
