It would be a mistake to say the government and courts don’t believe the exculpatory evidence. It’s not even accurate to say they don’t care. They disbelieve it as a sacrament. Their entire faith is premised on a conviction meaning guilt. Showing them evidence is asking them to be apostates.

This execution went forward despite the release of new exculpatory evidence this week. wach.com/news/local/f... Killing prisoners should not be a legitimate power of government. Governments aren’t good at wielding the power of life and death in criminal cases, and they’re not going to get better.

Have spent the past few hours going through the *new* version of KOSA that the House E&C Committee will be voting on tomorrow. It's even worse than the Senate version and will definitely be used to remove LGBTQ content. It's very, very bad. Story in the morning...

Honestly, I'm ready to deal with toxic masculinity by greenlighting a reality competition show called "Yeah, I Could Do That". WARNING: Contains scenes of graphic violence, mayhem, and death

Changing Jamelle Bouie’s column headline from a clear-eyed explanation of what animates Vance’s racism to a mealy-mouthed suggestion that Vance be less racist is, even by NYT opinion desk standards, abject cowardice

“On the one hand the Germans murdered millions by putting them in concentration camps and liquidating them. On the other hand people called the Germans ‘Huns.’ Isn’t it time we got past the personalities and snipes and returned to serious debate of real issues?”

AI is so deeply offensive to artists because art exists to Communicate Emotion. if there is nobody actually crafting the art, then there is no Emotion being Communicated. the reason art matters at all is because a human made decisions, and those decisions tell us about their world

lot of negativity towards AI lately, but consider : are these tools ethical or environmentally sustainable? No. *but* do they enable great things that people want? Also no. *but* are they being made by well meaning people for good reasons? Once again, no. maybe you're not being negative *enough*

my in laws visiting would be much easier if my cats weren't terrified of strangers, if one of them would show up to sit in my lap the nonstop socialization would be much less exhausting

Ensuring that intersex women have the right to keep their medical information private is not just a matter of privacy rights or inclusivity, it's a matter of their personal safety. Not that all the gender conformists suddenly claiming to be concerned about safety in women's sport care about that.

Alex Says Stuff@alexsaysstuff.bsky.social

There are multiple recorded cases of top level female athletes trying to kill themselves after having been publicly outed as intersex, barred from competing, and often had their records and medals stripped. At least one succeeded. www.hrw.org/report/2020/...

If you ever wonder why Jupiter is one of the hardest planets to paint with glaze, it’s bc it looks best like this — glaze just globed on & swirled around. But there’s potential firing problems: air bubbles trapped in the glaze. That’s why this piece was terrifying and too risky to ever do again 😅

LLMs like ChatGPT have actually done the thing people claimed Google or Wikipedia would do, in that LLMs have stopped people being curious and actually learning how stuff works, or how one gets the answer to a question. Superficial intelligence for the superficially intelligent

If we look at USPS like a business (i.e., not fake political accounting), the USPS consistently self-funds ≈98% of its expenses, with cash on hand to sustain that for 10+ years and it can easily raise more—all while providing affordable essential services to the entire citizenry. A modern marvel.

It’s telling that Walz is “redefining” American masculinity. The guy’s a stereotypical macho man—veteran, hunter and football coach—but the fact that he’s also a nice dude makes it a paradigm shift. He isn’t known for his knitting skills. We’ve just come to associate masculinity with being a dick.

people who do not have an artist's soul can't make anything good with GenAI bc it doesn't have an artist's soul either. true artists can create art from anything, like this guy who got ChatGPT to generate Drake 9/11 Themed Lay's Chips
