did a walk with @exgenesis.ingroup.social today around UBC and added basic support for publishing to a new lexicon to view your own walks! (super barebones atm) saunter.henry.ink/profile/henr...

…being able to go for a walk in a popular place, and hear *all* tours folks have published nearby, with their volume dependent on the distance I am from where they were when they recorded. So I can fade in and out of conversations by moving, and *literally* follow the conversation I’m enjoying.

Wow, that sounds amazing! I’d love to use it when it’s ready for sharing! I’m *absolutely loving* this idea & the way you’re linking walking with other data. I’m dreaming of being able to sync up my teal.fm listening with a solo walk too, or (omg this needs its own post …)

(now fixing the audio haha, it was a messy setup, have to manually sync 2 mics and the route..) ideally it works with my ios app which i also can open source + share testflight

ok i'll probably open source soon, tho it's pretty bad atm

not sure how appview hosting works in terms of costs: for the route/json probably needs to be a blob similar to videos? currently for audio, i link to the podcast mp3 on a cdn so not sure about either

ok i'm confused with blobs, i guess you can't use them in a PDS for audio? since it's not a cdn and can't seek? is there an approach to this or does someone just have to pay to host in an appview or use the podcast host as url (what i'm doing now)?

down to do another walk each morning honestly since it's so nice..

brendan@schlage.town

As a PNW native I can't exactly visit vancouver and not try to do a hike of some kind… Any atmosphere conf friends wanna join me tmrw morning?? Looks like several good chill trails right near ubc campus, we can pick beach or woods, get in 2-3 hrs before lunch I'm thinking!

ok now I want to implement a basic lexicon so everyone can upload their walks to my site for the conf as a fun artifact

ask about my Bible app! thinking a lot about visuals, diff interfaces for navigation, crowdsourcing, commentary etc

made a command palette for navigating b/t Bible verses and curious about other UIs that could be generalizable for any navigation, that are efficient/fast for desktop/mobile using keyboard/mouse/touch

idea: a running podcast app where it only plays as long as you keep pace the music version plays faster and slower proportionately, so if the tunes get draggy, you know what to do

henry@henryzoo.com

friend gave me an idea: what if you could only listen if you were actually nearby? or you accessed the site at the same time/day? or it get louder as you were closer to the points..

(thinking about this for the saunter walking app/viewer)

henry@henryzoo.com

is there a list of third party appview or other backend services to use or learn from? wondering what's already out there and what i can do.. feeling a bit too open on what to build or not build

ui refresh of Sauntercast (still uploading some older walks) sauntercast.henryzoo.com

original post! now i'm wondering if it's interesting to make it a renderer for paths and make a lexicon for it and be able to view and share walks on atproto? would anyone want to contribute or already existing things for that (i assume there's a location/POI version already out there too)

henry@henryzoo.com

still iterating, but been exploring how to showcase a walking podcast with @laurel.bsky.social. sauntercast.henryzoo.com

trying to make something on atproto and then realizing again that no one wants to create a new acc let alone create passwords.. while apple/google login is simpler now for folks (does bluesky support passkeys yet, is it possible?)

has anyone played around with Airpods apis (head tracking for spatial audio)? my hope is to play around with controlling an app without having to look at a screen.. would be an interesting design challenge and would be great when walking around, on the subway, or just a diff experience

also uses switch sounds for hooks, for when tasks are done (i like it better than a video game character sound)!

writing to ask for collab: open invite to chat/call with anyone thinking about both list-type lexicons and collaborative lexicons.. wondering what to do with bible annotations (ref -> annotation). is the list and listItem really the way to go?

henry@henryzoo.com

probably asked about this earlier, but curious if there's been any progress on thinking through what collaborative lexicons would look like. thinking about this a lot in terms of shared lists (vs just personal ones)? @hyl.st? is it just shared did/pds or an appview aggregates some prefix/string?

if anyone has any suggestions, i'm all ears! particularly for the homepage/episode view (something more interesting than just plain lists) and also the transcript view (the convo/chat mode was fun but now with ai it seems like everything is a chat unforunately)
