hugging face is the most terrifying indicator of where the ai race is, in the sense that the industry is facing completely solvable collective action problems while guided by entrenched, unoustable leaders with the foresight and moral fortitude of above-average pigeons

The loneliness epidemic makes people very, very susceptible to anything that makes nice, friendly noises at them, which makes those noises dangerous in the same way heroin is dangerous, and for the same reason

there's a pretty simple connection here 1. humans become good at what they practice doing 2. outsourcing to an AI or even other people, means you have stopped doing the thing 3. if you stop doing the thing, you will stop improving, and, long term, get worse at it (cont.)

i really think genai causes actual brain damage. probably faster than most ways you can on purpose give yourself brain damage. and if you hear this statement as literally as i mean it i think it sounds sorta conspiracy nut, but undeniably less conspiracy nut than the apparent sum of its parts

The 5 Simpsons lines I’ve uttered most off the top of my head: 1. Elmo knows where you live! 2. Open wide for some Soccer! 3. I see you’ve played knifey-spooney before! 4. Oh, didn’t I? 5. That’s the joke

The 5 Simpsons lines I’ve uttered most off the top of my head: 1. I… Don’t… Know. 2. Abortions for some. Miniature American flags for others. 3. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. 4. I don’t recall saying good luck. 5. Sleep! That’s where I’m a Viking.

I don‘t normally comment on celeb deaths, but Tim Curry was always fucking brilliant in everything and it’s very sad news that’s he’s passed. RIP.

I think it’s just worth remembering that as the media handwring to justify publicly humiliating and hounding a man to death, just two weeks ago they gave glowing eulogies to another man with a history of domestic violence and brushed off his own statements about having pedophillic impulses

Somebody asked me on Reddit why people who use AI to generate Recomp projects are currently being rejected from the communities and what they can do to fix this. I might tweak parts of this to be a more general blog post at some point, but this should be of help to anyone in a similar situation.

My entire life I’ve never called it the FIFA World Cup. I’ve always called it the World Cup. Fans don’t give a shit about FIFA. If national teams showed up for a World Cup tournament not held by FIFA we would all watch it. World Cup is the brand. FIFA is nothing.

Now the story of a wealthy family who lost everything. And the one son who had no choice but to keep them all together.

You suddenly get a narrator describing your life and there’s no way to turn it off - everyone can hear it. While shopping, at work, at home, with friends - the voice narrating your every move goes on. Who do you hope is the voice of this narrator?

2019: planting more than 49 trees is impossible and dumb 2026: building 200 data centres in a year is the least we can do to maintain democracy

I was talking to my gender critical friend the other day and she said “I want to kill you” so I said “respectfully I disagree” and she said “i bet you’re plotting terror against me right now” and I said “what makes you say that” and she said “websites” and I said “oh” and then she shot me, amicably

Paramount+ wanted to use the image on the left as a poster for the wrath of Khan, so they used everyone's least favorite technology to generate the rest of the image.

The industry response to this will be “they’re just doing their jobs” but speculative digging like this is quite obviously bin diving, an attempt to dredge up *something* that will stick.

Old housemates, old school friends, family members, - they even asked a local launderette for an itinerary of what I've had washed! All this from billionaire owned media because they don't want a party to continue growing that challenges power & wealth. Join.greenparty.org.uk

“Why should anyone care about reading something nobody cared enough to write?”

The people so eagerly foisting generative AI on us will destroy you, me, the web, the environment — anything but their valuations — to finally realize their long-held dream of “entry level position; five years of experience required.” Don’t run the risk of helping them. wil.to/posts/llemda...

While we’re on the subject of CBeebies, Moon & Me gets shitcanned from the weeknight schedule but The Clangers stays? Get in the bin. Obviously Night Garden is untouchable but both my kids immediately zone out when Clangers starts.
