I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
repost if you will never vote for a democrat willing to harm trans kids
puberty blockers are medicine
hormones are medicine
nobody is carving your kids up
children know who they feel like
I will never vote for an anti-transgender Democrat like Josh Turek and you should not either.
I'll probably be writing my case to abstain from a handful of races like his on Monday.
Josh Turek is showing the exact slippery slope I've called out, in real time.
Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet.
Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well.
Horrific.
I think probably the main way they'll try to screw with election results is by having a bunch of the dumbest fucks on twitter hitting Polymarket hard in the lead up to make it look like Republicans are favored to win and then complaining that "something's fishy" when they don't
seems like "on the orders of a nazi every major news outlet on the planet hounded an innocent man to death because he's black" should be one of the biggest stories of the year
SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.
“Poornography” is an essential and, sadly, durable concept for filtering the media we consume, including, also sadly, video games. really strong essay from @andrejgee.bsky.social
My take on this is that sure, maybe its misinformation for any of us to try and spreadit, but tactically it seems like a winner for Zelenskyy to say it, and i wish him the best
Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.
Bethany wore a “Protect The Dolls” t-shirt during rehearsals. The BBC posted it on their socials then quietly deleted and reposted it without showing her from the front. On TV last night they actually blurred the message #Strictly
And Nic Cage really is NOT into AI
“Amazon is a very AI-friendly company. I am not an AI-friendly actor,” he said. “I didn’t sign the waiver. I’ll probably never work with that studio again.”

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment.

"bully crumples after being hit at all" is such an interesting story, i wonder if there are any analogous ones that are already popular that would make doing something like this everywhere seem intuitive
“That’s the problem, Mike. It’s not just that you hired half the Third Reich to staff your congressional office, and you have promoted neo-Nazi content online,” Ossoff said. “It’s that you’re robbing your constituents to subsidize your donors.” talkingpointsmemo.com/fivepoints/s...
Imagine offering up this anecdote as a brag. Jesus Christ, is there anyone who reads this, thinks that it sounds like a good thing, and *doesn't* think "and then what happened?", and therefore immediately think "Biden is a failure"? If he got so mad, why did he do nothing? That is the bigger story!
The day that Biden grew so angry at Netanyahu that he nearly cut him off: "He was just completely fed up with everything and I think at that moment he was ready to just say, 'I’m done,'" Brett McGurk recalls as he releases "Brink," his memoir of Gaza war. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/01/u...
shit like this is why I’m not a free speech absolutist. people like this, antivaxxers, etc should absolutely not be allowed to have platforms and when they post things like this, social media cos should be legally required to take it down
ICE has notified me that another person has died in their custody. This is the 58th death under ICE’s watch since Trump returned to office.
That’s 58 too many. We need to dismantle ICE, eliminate private, for-profit detention centers, and reform our broken immigration system.
Facebook really doesn't want you to see the new documentary exposing Elon Musk Neither do TikTok or Google or the eX social media site.
Since they won't accept paid advertising, let's do some free advertising. Go see Musk in theaters October 9

i really can’t bring myself to care about AI anthropomorphism debates. “is AI thinking?” i don’t know. is a calculator calculating? questions for the philosophers. what’s important is that we put sam altman in prison.
Wu on redistricting if Dems get control: "You do the exact same thing that they did to you until they say mercy" and agree to national, bipartisan reform.
"Gov Gavin Newsom over the weekend vetoed legislation aimed at protecting providers of gender-affirming care from being extradited to face charges for doing so by another state."
He was "worried about constraints on the governor's power to approve extraditions".

Outside the obvious timebomb of selling out trans kids to appeal to ~16 bigots in deep Ohio, an underplayed part of the whole "trans kids in youth sports" stuff is making the most psycho Little League parents the most important political demo in America. They're joy vampires for the kids themselves!
If you're a Dem who thinks you'll gain something by going anti-trans, look at Gallup's "most important problem" and Fox News' "most important issue" polling and see where trans issues rank.
Whoever told you going anti-trans is a savvy or necessary move spends too much time on X and should be fired.
"This election is about the threat of trans kids" is the worst possible messaging for Dems yet so many candidates are leaning into it. No voter will flip R->D over it. Low-info voters read this as "you're focused on bullshit that doesn't affect me" while the base reads this as "you're an asshole."
Incredibly disappointing ad from Mary Peltola (D-AK) saying she neither supports "kids getting surgeries to change genders or men in girls bathrooms."
Yes, flipping the Senate is essential and can stop bad laws and bad judges from happening, but she can do it without my support from the lower 48.
This is oligarchy. "Don't criticize the oligarchs or they will destroy you" is a story about rising dictatorship, but framed as political consultant strategizing.
Dems should be riding anti-AI anger to massive gains, but consultant class will help throw that away.
