My flow as a developer is like Matisse's: "When working, [...] there is a constant back and forth until the work and I are in harmony. Like a writer, I am always revising, going back and making new discoveries". Programming is a craft.

ECMAScript Euphoria! 🎉 We don't always post when a single proposal advances, but when we do, it's Temporal -> Stage 4. Just days shy of 9 years from Stage 1, a herculean effort on the part of many champions, delegates, invited experts, and contributors, past and present. Thank you all! 🙌

If I create a simple loader that just console.logs the source code, and I import a `.ts` file using the @nodejs.org support for it, I get the TS code and not the transpiled code. This means that loaders that analyze the source code will now need to understand TS.

If a package is used only in `import type`, should that package be in `dependencies` or `devDependencies`. It feels wrong for it to be in `dependencies` because the JS runtime doesn't see it, but it MUST be in `dependencies` because `.d.ts` files generated by the package refer to it. 😢

Interesting how the browser is now a valid place to run frontend tooling, thanks to tools like @stackblitz.com and @codesandbox.io

Evan You@evanyou.me

Rolldown's wasm build just got significantly faster in browsers thanks to @broooooklyn.bsky.social! One challenge of native bundlers is that they have to ship and run as wasm in browser environments. Some bundlers like rspack doesn't even support this due to the complexity it involves.

I especially liked the "Deeply coupled data and functionality" section, which points out what is for me the most problematic issue with microservices. Couple that with "Incorrect domain boundaries", and you have an architecture that takes more than it gives.

But if you do the design correctly, a microservice architecture, IMO, is much better than a monolith, even for systems that don't need scale. Why? Because microservices for me are a system of _modularity_ more than a system of scale. And modularity is key to creating a codebase that grows.

Word of the day is a favourite, from old Scots. To ‘tartle’ is to hesitate while introducing someone because you have completely forgotten their name.

could we do something like `at.domain.tld` e.g. `at.runspired.com` or even `@runspired.com` so that my website is still my website but there's a shorthand that redirects?

Look at this post - it has a *link* in it! How is that possible? Digging a bit, it seems that the 🦋 app has support for rich text (docs.bsky.app/docs/advance...), so I'm guessing that while the 🦋 client doesn't support writing it, the Ouranos client below does, and the 🦋 client shows it.

docs.bsky.appLinks, mentions, and rich text | BlueskyPosts in Bluesky use rich text to handle links, mentions, and other kinds of decorated text.
Boris@bmann.ca

The main Ouranos build now supports third-party data types (called Lexicons in #atproto) -- Frontpage links, LinkAt linktree-like pages, and WhtWnd blogs. @smokesignal.events is on deck after some Lexicon fixes. Just the beginning of seeing what apps can evolve here.

@nx.dev - why oh why does remote caching only work in CI, and I have to `export CI=1` to make it work locally? This feels _very_ opinionated, from a tool that in general is not. A CLI argument or `nx.json` option would have been better, as I would really love to use remote caching on dev machines.

Isn't it funny how many people dogged on component fetching because it created waterfalls that are now hailing RSCs because they enable... component fetching, albeit on the server. It removes one side of a round trip for a fetch, but a waterfall is a waterfall and you know what they say...

And they never tell you what it *really* does.

oh wow you have a SaaS? Let me guess what your website says - "what used to take months and does it in minutes" - "scales effortlessly" - "lets you focus on business logic and leave the hard bits to us" - “unlocks the potential of your team” - “powerful yet easy to use” /1

It's not a coincidence that the icon for LLM actions is something like ✨. Because LLMs feel like magic. And just like magic in fantasy and fairy tales, LLMs can totally backfire on you!

OMG! Google Slides can now show speaker notes in a separate window ***automatically***! (Without me needing to move windows from screen to screen in an awkward way at the start of the presentation) Too bad I got so used to not having speaker notes, that I don't need them anymore. 😁

Isn't it infuriaritingly confusing, that if you want to have a number `num` be *at most* 10, then you have to write const finalNum = Math.min(num, 10) My intuition is shouting at me "Math.max! Math.max!", and I have to shut it up and accept that "at most" mean "Math.min". 🤷‍♂️

In a nice turn of events, a week after I learned about this API I found a use for it at work. Thank you @ambarvm.bsky.social for this piece of info. 🙏 (and did I lose `p-mutex`? Nope - I used it to fake this API when running Vitest tests 😁)

We are the number one app in the United States. I repeat. We are the number one app in the United States.

Doesn't work for me. When I try I find myself glossing over the details. What *does* work for me is writing a detailed description of the pr that guides the reviewer. And that's where I find my bugs! By explaining it to someone else. And the reviewer gets a bonus review guide that really helps.

Matteo Collina@nodeland.dev

When opening a Pull Request, I'm the first one to review it. Whenever I push, I spot bugs I added and overlooked before pushing. *Every single time*. Do you review your own PR?

Bluesky is doing great in building the UI, but small things are still missing (that's fine! These things take time) One things that's _really_ missing for discovery purposes - hovering over a user's handle or a user's avatar, and having a popup show the information about the user.

This would have really helped in figuring out whether I want to follow that user. Instead I have to click on the handle/avatar and lose my current reading context.

The best thing about this release - our community "alpha testers" team caught a few nasty bugs just before we were about to release it a week ago... We then fixed them and now it's finally ready. God I love the @qwik.dev community! 🙌😍

I'm researching a build system for our monorepo at work. I've looked into Turborepo, which seems fine, but not very fast. Also, its `turbo watch` functionality doesn't seem to work for me (lots of strange undocumented errors). Any good alternatives to Turborepo?

Lage - documentation is *very* incomplete. Rush - is also trying to replace the package manager, which feels heavyweight and unecessary. Nx - I just want a build system for my monorepo, not a whole new way to write code!

I was always an optimist - "things are bad, but you'll see". I was usually right. Today I woke up a pessimist. Not only do we have a raving lunatic as the world's president (yes, indirectly he is my president too), but yesterday our PM just fired the only sane member of his government.

And, yes, we went out to demonstrate. Last year the same demonstrations revoked the same decision Bibi made. But this time it's not going to happen - Bibi just doesn't care anymore. We are tired. Tired of fighting for what should be obvious - a sane and democratic country.
