I mostly talk about programming, usually FP, sometimes design, and a lot more rarely about music and games. I would love that order to be different but such is life.

This whole post hits me deeply. Wish there was a safe bubble for people like us to continue creating and engaging without all of the market virus that is almost impossible to avoid these days. Bubbles are bad - this is worse.

this wave of AI has legitimately killed a huge part of what I loved about seeing stuff online, what I loved about being an educator, and what I loved about sharing my own work I just don't feel like doing it anymore

terrible. 20 years ago, the internet was full of hobbyist blogs and forums. over time, these have been replaced by paywalled substacks and private discord channels, each a walled garden. google's decision to prioritize AI just makes it less likely people will create free, public info

Google is transforming Search from a list of links into an AI-powered experience filled with conversational answers, autonomous agents, and interactive interfaces — a shift that could further reduce traffic to publishers across the web.

A person I know (and who is? was? a good professional al) left an AI-generated comment under my LinkedIn post. Full-on AI slop. I asked: why do this? He replied. It’s because of “engagement.” People are burning their profession al reputation, paying for AI tools, for nothing

I'm almost there it's so pretty!! 😭 this is the first time I've made extensive use of complex numbers in shader code, which has been fun! it's an analytic 2D lighting system through piecewise conformal maps representing angular light/"sky" exposure, which means you get fully analytic penumbras!

such a good mobile ux with great use of sound(!) for user action feedback - rarely seen these days ❤️

I built a color extraction tool because most of them kept giving me beige. This is OKPalette. It adapts to the image before picking colors. Also: first time I ever tried recording myself. This is the least terrible attempt 😅👇 okpalette.color.pizza youtu.be/qkZlgJLGKI4

So many people are self sabotaging by deskilling via this nonsense right now. Want an edge in 2027? Don’t build reliance on bad tools into your process in 2025.

Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other. Shared by @gizmodo.com: buff.ly/yAAHtHq

Gleam Brasil has just launched 🇧🇷 with the goal of “promoting Gleam in Brazil by creating high-quality content, tutorials, and articles in Portuguese”. The organizers have already set up a GitHub org to centralize their efforts: github.com/gleam-br

After working with Elm for so many years, its kinda funny when I realise my normal is the exception for most people... These days, even when working with different langs (Gleam, Elixir, TS, Odin), I always architecture things in a way this _mostly_ remains true (but not really).

dan@danabra.mov

one thing that blew my mind about working in Lean (and is still blowing my mind) is that “variables” (really, let bindings) and “function calls” are all infinitely unfoldable. i can just replace each variable with its definition, each function with its body, any no of levels deep, during a proof.

This thread does an amazing job at exemplifying how LLMs will create a poor generation of students (and thinkers)

This past semester was the most stressful of my academic career. I had 180 students and about half cheated at some point in the semester They submit weekly reflections where the questions are opinion-based, graded only on effort, don't care about grammar SO MANY students submitted ChatGPT essays

Alongside the rest of my team I've been hit by layoffs. I'd be grateful for help finding a new place to apply my skills at! 7y of professional Elm experience; would also be comfortable in Haskell, TypeScript, Erlang/Elixir/Gleam, OCaml, Kotlin, Scala email: martin@janiczek.cz Many thanks for RTs!

I've seen some people recommending Hackernoon as the best place to post your content these days. "Oh nice! Don't know this one - let me check it out." For real folks - how is this acceptable? People should be AFRAID of anything looking like this.

It's really cool to see the seed of my work germinating through Gabriel's work with RefactorEx! #ElixirLang

I'm kinda addicted to talks and interviews. A pattern I've noticed tied to highly self-centered "thought leaders" is saying something absolutely debatable and following with "it's an obvious thing that nobody is thinking of" (except them). Its the "well, actually..." of monologues. Please don't.

go.bsky.app/gQdQbj Nice starter for people interested in Elm-like langs! 😁 In the past I thought a lot about what trait is common in these folks and I think we're all just careful builders who value simplicity and kindness. Elm and FP are just nice tools to express and achieve this simplicity.

As a designer that mostly worked for web over the last ~15y, I fucking love game UI design so much. Why is web so much worse?? Games have this attention to small details, they're not afraid to innovate while still being intuitive. Animations, spaciality, playfulness - ppl should be taking notes.

Hey frontend developers, I would love to know what is the first thing you reach for when first thinking about how to implement a new feature and what framework/language you use! Do you think about markup? Components? State? Data structures? Please RT for reach, I have no friends 😅

I've used tons of frameworks and languages over the years, and nothing ever brought me the joy and realiability of #Elm . I'm gonna speak about how we use it in production at uncover.co - keeping our 200k+ LoC easy to maintain and grow.
