I have no special insight into the specific finances of various companies but I don’t know how you don’t spend like ten minutes with Claude or Codex and think that this isn’t a viable product that people will spend money. Individual firms may go bust, but LLMs are straight up never going away ever.

smoked haters got absolutely smoked on the facts because the entire movement against AI power is built on fruit of a poisoned tree opposing the growing and dangerous power of AI (and its purveyors) requires reckoning with the reality of how it works, not plugging your ears pretending it doesn't

Yes and also this sort of 'uniparty' nonsense feels so hollow deployed in the midst of a national stove-touching. It turns out the difference between a 'milquetoast corporate Democrat' and Trump was really big! President Harris would not be driving trans soldiers out of the military!

youtubers, streamers, podcasters, etc are always on this beat bc they don't know how anything works & know that if they say something like this, their audiences will lap it up now & also 3 years later when they point to total gay commie revolution not happening and go "see? i was right!"

You used to call me on the poop phone...

told this to my 10yo. Then rapidly, without missing a beat “does that mean you can smell poop over the phone?”

Have you seen the new CVE? It's on leegnux. It's literally on MITRE. It's on zendo with ads. It's literally on GitLab. You can probably find it on zendo. Dude it's on Joomla.

Claude, plz rewrite wordpress in rust. Yes all the plugins too. No I don't just mean the source code, I mean like, go replace everybody's wordpress install. You don't have access, well funny thing...

if you aren't a huge nerd this is terrifying and very funny php is trash. insecure by design. we have known this forever. it still runs some very high fraction of the entire internet, including all wordpress sites and for some reason tumblr anyway everyone using it may be pwned

Making myself angry for no reason at all remembering the American transit planner that went to Amsterdam and was appalled at how little stakeholder engagement they did in favor of actually building shit.

I just realized I've never - not once - seen an LLM say "i don't know" or "im not sure". I think that's what makes LLM-generated social media posts so recognizable: no uncertainty, no humility (not even pretend humility), no hedging. And, like, the world is nuanced, man.

Some people were making me mad on the internet so I wrote a blog post about it. On the different reasons for people have for being left wing and how people manage the psychological tensions of the fact that they come apart. sootyempiric.blogspot.com/2026/10/the-...

A very interesting thread on consciousness, and dealing with entities that have goals of their own. There is a flaw in the thread though: it conflates consciousness and personhood. Non-human animals are conscious and engage in strategic behaviors, but they are not people. Morally, that matters.

Grass Toucher Georg@avengingfem.me

i have a working theory that cuts the gordian knot of "is AI conscious". first, consciousness is in most cases a proxy for personhood, in the sense that if AIs are conscious, they should be regarded as people. i dont think most of the discourse is interested in the question merely in the abstract.

Sometimes the AI discourse on here becomes so much that I wish for more politics (broadly defined). The politics discourse actually happens...

If you are a San Francisco voter who actually wants to implement left-progressive policy, Scott Wiener is your candidate.

Wendy Thurm@wendythurm.bsky.social

Yes. Yes. A thousand times, yes. @scottwiener.bsky.social is THE progressive in the race to succeed Nancy Pelosi in Congress. He believes in progress. Connie Chan does not. sfstandard.com/opinion/2026...

The tension here is that the econometric definition of middle class is tautological - exactly 50% of people make between the 25th and 75th percentile of incomes - and the social definition is tied to arbitrary and constantly increasing signifiers

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

It doesn’t do progressives any good to pretend most of America is deeply impoverished or that poverty is the norm here. A sense of widespread scarcity does not make people more generous. We are a rich nation, most of us are middle class. There is a suffering minority and we can afford to help them.

We mostly have one common word, "understand", that needs to carry multiple levels like: 1. I can parrot the definition back 2. I can explain its relation to other concepts 3. I can solve exercises related to it 4. I can solve problems related to it 5. I can derive new knowledge atop it
