in most realities, we’re someone’s forgotten experiment
silly idea I had: 1. write a bare metal, standalone inference engine and harness, i.e. runs without an OS 2. put various models in there and give them some fun tasks (e.g. "send an HTTP GET to this address"). see which ones are capable enough to complete said tasks and which ones brick themselves
i’m telling you: you can’t *have* fur. but we can recreate it in the aggregate
Getting more fur-like. I don't think I have any good way of smoothing out the 'singularities' at the hips. This method is pretty crude... I'm basically just calculating cylindrical coordinates around each leg, the tail, and once around the torso, then blending it all together.

large faction of people on here who react to the message “get on board or get left behind” because they can’t imagine anyone delivering that message in good faith, and yet
my nuclear-grade AI hot take that’s sure to get me cancelled until kingdom come is that refusing to use AI at all is rapidly becoming an extremely privileged lifestyle choice that feels social justice-y while actually being the complete opposite

"The rule of law, but for land use" remains an *profoundly* radical position.
looked at in longer perspective, it's striking how much this resembles the premodern system of exclusion, rents, and personalist connections, which was--and this part's important--radically worse than the modern system of impersonal rules and general taxation
bread is too expensive. to fix this, you: 1) ban the construction of all new bakeries 2) create loopholes whereby bakers can negotiate one-off deals to build a bakery as long as they promise to give away a certain number of free loaves of bread do you think bread prices would go up or down?
Boston’s chief planner is a true believer in the San Francisco model, in which you make it impossible to profitably build apartments by-right so developers are forced into a politicized discretionary negotiation with the city, which relaxes the rules in exchange for below-market units.

oai is catching up fast but they wasted a lot of time forgetting the cardinal rule: NEVER turn your back on b2b SaaS
So Anthropic makes money because its revenue grew 2.5 times since March, which… is it just that everyone uses Claude to code now? It’s become the second most vital coding utility after electricity? In that it? Someone explain like I’m five.

I've been meaning to get around to posting the full details, so what the hell - why not get it out while it's still Vuln Week: Anthropic's mech interp driven security model is built on a fundamentally incorrect assumptions. Let's dive in, starting with this paper: www.anthropic.com/research/nex...
About a year ago, I got really into making glitch art exploring the edge cases & failure modes of machine cognition. This had some unexpected applications. Here’s the result: recursion.wtf/posts/claude... I've shared the relevant logs & artifacts with Anthropic, and the matter is under review.
