Some sort of weird ape wandering around on a big rock. Probably shouldn't be taken too seriously because I don't even know how all this stuff got here.

Our rapid disillusionment with political leaders is treated by much of the media as some kind of pathology. But what I see is these leaders backtracking on their promises, dashing people's hopes and serving the ultra-rich ahead of the rest of the population. Why wouldn't we be disillusioned?

George Monbiot@georgemonbiot.bsky.social

So the ultra-rich will continue to own our politics, and our country. Disappointing to say the least. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

For the last few weeks, every time I go running I see at least one new dead bird on my route. Some small mammals, but mostly birds. It's deeply concerning.

I had an ADHD joke but that reminds me, I had this dream earlier where I was trying to drink water and couldn't and jt was SO ANNOYING, but then my friend's dog turned into a faucet but I'm not drinking water from a dog if I have a choice, so when I woke up I was mad about ir and also thirsty, but--

Weren’t the water companies supposed to have ‘investment in infrastructure’ as part of the privatisation process? Instead they’ve squeezed out every bit of profit and left the infrastructure to whither on the vine!

Fizzy Lya reposted

Half of the country is in "exceptionally serious drought" - putting us at more risk of wildfires and threatening our food security. Meanwhile water companies are wasting a staggering 2.87 billion litres of water every day through leaky pipes. Time to end water privatisation.

Hard to overstate how much the Overton window has been allowed to shift on this. “Labour bans trans women from female toilets” would have caused a political earthquake in the party in, say, 2019.

Wes Streeting just gave your address, your ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, if you are cis or trans, if you've ever had an abortion, an addiction, are disabled in anyway and a million other pieces of info about you, to a far right tech company the UK government has no control over.

The reason for the media's antisemitic attacks on Zack Polanski (and all the other nonsense that is being aimed at him) is quite simple. The billionaires who own the media are afraid that the Green Party will tax them fairly and use that money to help build a better society. #VoteGreen

You have more in common with the people of Iran than you do with anyone in this administration, any member of the technocracy, anyone who is profiting from this war, or any billionaire. When you see Iranians forming human chains outside key infrastructure sites, you should feel a sense of kinship.

For all his wrongs, for the literal tears of anger shed when he became PM, for my persecution at the hands of his government, I still have to give Keir Starmer points for standing up to the US and aligning with Europe. The bar is in Hell, but it's the right direction. Keep that up.

@clearlight.bsky.social I said the bar is in Hell, we still have his "limited defensive involvement" blah blah, but it seems like Trump genuinely isn't getting what he wanted? You're right though, can't trust a single thing he says, everything else has been pure optics.

There's a certain category of anti-trans propaganda page I've noticed that's like... They pretend to share lots of tran-positive stuff, but in a way that either cherry picks or takes things out of context to be as stupid and irritating as possible, and farm rage from bigots.

The whole "AI" industry is just based on the hope that they can deskill people fast enough that they'll have to rent back cognitive support systems. Forever. It's like Uber. Just that they don't try to break existing transportation infrastructures but your brain.

"Survival of the fittest" sounds like a pretty weird phrase until you realise Darwin and Spencer were both British, and "fit" is British slang for hot

Running down the street, coughing in the smoke and burning in the heat, you shout. "Help! Fire! The street is on fire!". You hear something. Dozens of echoing voices coming from all around in unison. They say, "I'll take things that didn't happen for 500"

You know, I saw that a girls' school in Iran had been bombed killing dozens, and I didn't need to be told who did the bombing. Obviously, the headline didn't name them, but we all know whose MO that is.

Love and solidarity to all the people of all the nations. You are me, I am you. We will never be enemies. Our enemies are those who rule, the capitalist cancers that make our species sick, who would have us kill each other on their behalf. We are all the 99%, across borders.

Well they played out another 2001 a couple of years ago so it makes sense that we've now arrived in 2003. The bastards with the bombs go round and round.

Towards the end of a meeting, AOB turned into general chitchat, and we got from talking about inner monologue to "it used to worry me that sleep is like experiencing death" Me: "well is it in French that they call a nap a little de... Wait no that's something else ignore me" 🤦‍♀️😅

Wow, it's crazy how "Anti-Trans Propaganda is being funded by Fascist Billionaire Paedophiles so that they're not being looked-at too closely" sounds a lot more sane in 2026 like us and any Leftist worth their salt hasn't been saying this the entire time.

This goes further than Section 28 ever did. Compulsory outing of children to their parents. Referral of children to medical interventions for straying outside the norm. Those are threats being wielded against trans kids that weren't even in the demands of Section 28.

The thing is, you didn't have to be Nostradamus to see it. You just had to be independent of the ultra-rich. Unfortunately, the great majority of the media is in the plutocrats' pockets. So the people pointing it out are shunned. In 2009 I tried and tried to get the BBC to pick this up. But ...⛔🤐

George Monbiot@georgemonbiot.bsky.social

1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.” This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵 www.monbiot.com/2009/05/04/m...

I desperately need Starmer to stand up to Trump. Look, I know countries aren't real, my loyalty is to the world and all that preamble... but A struggle for the heart of humanity is taking shape, and I don't want to see this country fighting on the wrong side when it kicks off. 💔
