My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

That headline is doing some serious stretching. All changes are within the margin of error - and it’s hard to see how a 3 point rise for Independent Ireland and a 1 point rise for Aontu indicates ‘voters turning to right wing populists’. Mad stuff.

I suppose we should be thankful that the Gardai are at least arsed to do something about Ireland's epidemic of speeding drivers on a couple of days each year.

A motorist driving nearly 40km/h over the speed limit was among 650 people detected speeding during the first day of a garda road safety operation.

RTE news carried an analysis of road deaths in 2026. The report repeatedly referred to “accidents”, including one where the driver deliberately drove on the wrong side of M9 motorway - clearly NOT an accident. The national broadcaster effectively infers that no-one is responsible for road deaths.

EU: prioritise call for high-speed rail network Irish Gov: #NavanRail line, planned back as far as 2011, then cancelled, now expected in a vague 2031 to 2036 timeframe (and not funded) 🫠

European Parliament@europarl.europa.eu

Parliament has set priorities for high-speed rail across the EU, calling for adequate funding in the next long-term EU budget and affordable, transparent ticketing. They also stress rail’s strategic role in achieving climate neutrality. Learn more: link.europa.eu/gVKGqv

“The Government decided to prioritise funding for the Metro, Cork Rail, Dart West upgrade, Finglas Luas, the Galway Ring Road, A5 upgrade and M20 Motorway. The #NavanRail line and the other Dart and Limerick rail upgrades will have to wait another decade or two, at the very least.”

Just when you think the Road [Car] Safety Authority couldn’t possibly be any worse… how are they still allowed to operate like this?

Social Democrats@social-democrats.bsky.social

The RSA's proposal to install breathalysers in licensed premises around the country (to the tune of €1.5m) is farcical. Not only is it ridiculous to make a game out of the legal limit, it muddies the water around drink driving. Never ever drink and drive is a clear message. The RSA must see sense

This was very popular. It’s amazing how many people have decent old bikes which can be easily be made roadworthy. Of course there were a few way beyond repair, but most just needed a new tubes or gear cable or chain. If only we made it safer for all to cycle everyday.
