in 2004, Sinn Féin opposed the abolition of birthright citizenship. the Sinn Féin of today would be the ones proposing it. the distance they have travelled on just immigration is probably the biggest rightward shift on any political question I have seen from any party in my lifetime. it's insane

Half a century of neoliberal centrism has been an unmitigated disaster for the entire planet, it’s not going to start doing any good any time soon. We have to be rid of it in every country.

Neoliberal centrism was THE method by which fascism has been restored to ascendency in so many places all at once. Reckon with that.

I don’t think any organisation has benefitted more from the ‘the internet it for cat videos’ view of how social media interacts with politics than Meta. You *still* get journalists talking about the ‘huge impact’ of Twitter who never mention Facebook. It’s so hugely stupid.

Horrific, and to happen on the same Madrid - Andalucía rail line as the other horrific train crash in Spain earlier this year. RIP to everyone who died here, and I hope their loved ones will at least get answers in the coming days and weeks as to how this could happen...

You know what isn't needed when talking about how you're going to further ruin the lives of millions of people? Jokes

Peter Walker@peterwalker99.bsky.social

Arguably low bar, but John Healey is a more confident and engaging budget-deliverer than Rachel Reeves. A lot of detail, but a narrative thread and a couple of decent jokes, including an off-the-cuff one after his mis-speak about Miatta F "opposing" Jackdaw.

If you’re going to say that the Netanyahu bloc is larger than the opposition bloc, because the opposition bloc explicitly excludes the Arab parties, then you cannot also say that the fact that [some] Palestinians get to vote proves what a vibrant democracy Israel is.

HBO is bringing us a new take on Alfred Hitchcock’s THE BIRDS, with Sarah Snook set to star in the limited series. Set in Alaska, this present-day take will center on a murder mystery, new characters, and, of course, terrifying bird attacks! Thoughts? 👀 Source: @deadline.com
