The “scan and pulp” story hit a nerve this week, but it’s only scratching the surface of what the AI industry is doing; which is fundamentally transforming the economics of human creativity and destroying the legal infrastructure - in place since the 1700s - that makes it a viable profession

I’ve slept on it now and when I woke up, I was still still mad about it. This morning, I’m going to ring the constituent office of my local FF TD and tell him just how mad it made me. Then I’m going to call the constituency office of my local SF TD, and ask if Matt Carthy’s support is their view.

I promise you this. If 1,000 of you did the same before 5pm today they would all be issuing clarifications by end of day. (well, probably not Jim O’Callaghan, who doesn’t know why cars come with a reverse gear)

No, I’m still mad about this consent business. I don’t think it is enough just to say it.

Had a really bad dream where the Minister for Justice, in the name of the government, enabled a pile-on of a rape crisis centre because of a campaign to raise awareness of consent for children.

The distinction being drawn by the Government members is that a hug is non-sexual and so you don't need consent. I simply don't agree and this is a very bad assertion of government policy over children. We had a whole referendum where the rights of children were affirmed www.rte.ie/news/2026/10...

I’ve a piece in @irishexaminer.bsky.social this morning about Ireland’s economic identity crisis www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm...

I argue that there’s an existential crisis about our future economic model, thats manifesting as a battle for narrative control of who Ireland is between EI & the IDA EI needs to sell Irish firms & innovation abroad, the IDA needs to sell Irish hospitality The IDA is winning, but I wish it wasn’t

Saturday, 8-11am, Radio 1 is the best audio produced in Ireland right now I cried in the car this morning stuck in the driveway listening to Playback weaving together Patsy O’Sullivan’s story Then beautifully produced stories from seaweed farmers in the west to guitar sellers in Dublin ❤️

Weird that 3 US companies -- Apple (€4.1bn), Microsoft (€5.6bn) and Eli Lilly (€5.7bn) -- now pay for people's heating oil, pension increases and tax cuts in this Budget. Near directly. They file windfall taxes = we hike social spending and cut our income tax. Utter, depressing dependence.
