Social engineering in the neoliberal era.

American workers' piece of the economic pie is shrinking. By one official measure, their slice is the smallest in almost 80 years. https://cnn.it/4yNqckO

Also a famous pun to describe British General Napier’s conquest of Sindh in 1843. But the story that he sent this as a one word telegram is an invention.

“The super-rich benefit at both ends of the crisis: first, through continued investment in polluting industries, and second, through investment in the booming ‘adaptation economy’ – recovery and rebuilding services are sold back to a warming world.” Burdens for you, benefits for me. Sustainable?

The Report itself - another meticulously documented catalogue of the widespread grave and systematic abuses - is a horrifying read. Unfathomable that the EU still refuses to face the fact that these crimes necessitate the suspension of the EU-Israel Trade agreement. www.ohchr.org/sites/defaul...

The world right now feels like when I went down to LA to deal with my childhood bedroom after the earthquake. Everything formerly meaningful is in a pile on the floor and it's, OK, what's neither shameful nor broken beyond repair, and worth taking into the future, except it's every institution.

The achievement of Serbian students overthrowing Aleksandar Vučić can't be overstated. In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and two months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.

While Ireland is at risk from the impending bursting of the AI bubble, it has not benefitted much from AI's growth. The investment happening here is producing little that can be taxed, and few jobs. It's virtually all cost and no benefit to us as a country. www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2026...

Early this year, I visited Ingram, a TX town of ~1,900, to check out a tip. The area was starting to recover from its worst flood in a century. But as Latino workers drove to jobsites to help rebuild, the tipster said, a cop in a black Dodge Charger kept stopping them ... 🧵

New in PN: @mattgertz.bsky.social on how Fox News is whipping viewers into a pre-midterm hysteria "These sorts of pseudo scandals germinate on the right, but if they can turn those stories into a major fixation for the mainstream press as well, then they do a lot more damage."
