Tonight in D&D: The party finds itself in the last free nation on the continent as the Empire begins its siege. They have an orb that turns them into a dragon (but maxes out exhaustion afterwards) and it's been fun watching how they decide to use it in these scenarios.

Anyway, they sunk two river barges carrying troops and forced most of them to surrender. Players used Shatter and Disintegrate in interesting ways. It gave the enemies a reason to flee, and the PCs had to decide if they were OK with that.

We also had one player end the session by in-character revealing to the rest of the party that they had guessed a twist another character wrote into their backstory. And it's probably going to shape the remainder of this campaign arc.

Most NPCs should be defined by motivations and actions, not whether they're bad guys or good guys. Leave space for your players to create their own meaning at the table. As a GM you are not an omniscient god, you should experience your world unfolding through play just like your players do.

Gamemastering is essentially a magic trick. You play with attention to make the world feel bigger and more compelling than your actual plan. But remember stage magicians and con men use similar techniques; the difference is how they relate to the audience. travelcheck.dylanwolf.com/p/gamemaster...

So this past weekend we got a very special opportunity to get an interview with Michael-Christopher Koji Fox and Toshio Murouchi aka "Foxclon!" It was a lot of fun, and we got some really interesting answers. Keep a lookout later this week at carbunclechronicle.com! #FFXIV #FF14 #Otakon #Otakon2026

Spent my whole life having my name mispronounced and misspelled and now I'm in "why should I change my name, he's the one who sucks" territory.

Tonight in D&D: I finally got to reveal that the plane the party has been in for the last 6 sessions (and 1.5 weeks of in-game time) is Ravenloft. They also now have 1 charge on their Amulet of the Planes to get home, but they're also fairly invested in the turmoil in the realm.

Thank you to everyone who showed up for either of our #FFXIV panels on Saturday at #MomoCon! It is always an amazing experience to see and hang out with only the most high quality of folks. You are all the best. Hope you enjoyed the panels!

I am pretty sure my only two D&D characters are - deconstructing divine/primal caster - operator with a heart of gold who gets in his own way by overplanning For other TTRPGs - skills guy, old - skills guy, young - let's try this weird magic option

Kevin's Blue Sky Adventures@rebelrobo.bsky.social

My favorite TTRPG classes: 1: Very heroic and good but also very evil vibes 2: Actually Dr. Herbert West in a fake mustache 3: The Dude 4: Spoony Bard w/extra spoon 5: Axe Lesbian

I just finished a campaign with a deconstructing druid. I started the new one with a bard who spies to help people and said, very out of character for me "You all know you can lie, right?" to the rest of the party.

I do not play bards like the kids these days do, they are too focused on questing and plot for flirting (and also that feels weird to me)

I had a lot of audio fun in this episode, in some goofy ways but you do have to get to near the end to listen to it. But honestly? We had a lot of fun recording this one! If you are excited for Evercold, please give it a listen. The future of FFXIV is bright, I really am Looking Forward To It.

I've run two sessions of The Wildsea TTRPG and I have really enjoyed the system. (To be fair, I need to I refresh myself on the rules so I've been playing very fast and loose.) I've hardly had to do any crunchy GM prep, just kind of think about the factions involved and what they're up to.

It's a bit weird at first--I felt like I was cheating as a player because I sometimes stretched to use a high-ranked skill. But because you're outlining your approach each time (even in attacks, and you generally don't have very specific weapons/attacks),

I find it breaks you out of the "I attack X with my Y" box. As a GM I find it helpse me ask "what are you doing when you attack them?" That opens up to more descriptive action that takes the world around you into account.

(To be fair I'm doing this as a very short series of adventures.) But it's right up there with Cypher for me in terms of ease of prep. Rolls are sort of a word-association dice pool system, where you pick the Edge and Skill you want to use for your approach.

I don't totally remember what I said in this interview but it's probably nothing that I'll get arrested for so I guess it's fine!!

Tonight in D&D: Make an Intelligence (Arcana) check to see if it would be a good idea to harvest meat from the Fiendish Lovecraftian tentacled monstrosities.

I am still listening back through this. I don't remember where we came down but I remember it required some negotiation on the final ranking to avoid ending friendships. (I'm not sure how much I'm kidding about that.)

If you see this post your favorite final fantasy character:

Tonight in D&D, the party split up: 1. Enlist our artificer allies to build a magic circle so big and well-engineered that it channels enough aether to reinvigorate the blighted land. 2. Enlist our new townsfolk allies to take us out on a fishing boat and look for a sea monster to fight.

Genuinely happy that the party discovered a creepy, mysterious ritual that was creating a crude magic circle and decided "wait, what if we did this *right*?" I'm having to think about the mechanics of the world, how much this will actually solve the problem, and how they'll know if it worked.

The "magic circle" group finished their construction about the time the "fishing" group sailed back into the harbor towing a monstrous turtle, as you do.
