Time is not the bottleneck. A worker's influence comes from the fact that their labor is necessary to achieve the business's needs. Any say in setting strategy comes only FROM that influence. Belief that our labor becoming *less* needed somehow converts into *more* influence is hopelessly naive.

Benjamin Leggett reposted

This is directly parallel to how UX design thoughtthinkers are on LinkedIn crowing how Claude Design lets us "do strategy—not pixel pushing", meanwhile design's access to the rooms where strategy is being done has NEVER been more constrained. GenAI concentrates power in the manager class only!

Fred Hebert@ferd.ca

I keep seeing people mentioning how ai-generated code lets you spend more time thinking about what the app should do, but I think there’s a need to remember that there are large groups of engineers whose role hasn’t been redefined to include that level of control and trust.

I think it may have been a mistake to make The Judge from BLOOD MERIDIAN the Republican nominee in every Senate race, but what do I know

if you ever write an article about a guy saying hes done with politics and then a month or so later hes making the largest political donation in history then you need to quit and find another line of work

Y'all really let some of the weirdest people on Earth, with the least empathy on Earth, become some of the richest people on Earth? And then you let these weird rich people with no empathy, operate with no consequences? It's like you're intentionally trying to bring back mad kings.🤷🏿‍♂️

Really despicable that somebody approved this.

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

Today is the least hostile the Democratic Party is going to be towards Israel that it will be for a long time to come. And that will be true tomorrow, next month, and a year from now. One way train.

Yet one more element of escalating, and very clearly state-sponsored ethnic cleansing. We’ll update on their status as soon as we hear.

America can have an oligarchy or a democracy—but not both. When Democrats next have national power, they must restrict the political power of billionaires, even including the so-called liberal ones that help put them in power. trib.al/UbF2XAk

If the capitalists time it right, they can blow up the global economy with massive amounts of AI debt right at the instant all of the right-wing fascist parties that they backed and funded get thrown out of power.

Capitalism is scarier than sentient AI, because the idea of it bring a system to which we have ceded total control as it mindlessly destroys human society to sustain itself isn't speculative fiction.

mcc@dryad.technology

We were getting too close to a post-scarcity society, it was becoming really blatant we had enough wealth to food and house everyone, so we had to introduce a huge amount of inefficiency and annoyance into things to make everything so expensive there is scarcity again

Wealth taxes work though. They worked before automation, and they'll work after automation. Because the problem hasn't changed - it's wealth concentration. We don't need novel taxes, just the one tax the very wealthy have tried to block for centuries.

Rest of World@restofworld.org

When companies automate, they keep the savings while workers and governments bear the cost, writes Alessandro Crimi. He points to South Korea’s automation tax as one possible solution https://restofworld.org/2026/robot-tax-ai-wealth-redistribution/?utm_campaign=row-social

Switch to Linux, where the cards work and don't do this.

PSA: The latest NVIDIA App update adds a Default-ON option that allows AI Agents to control the app... Might want to turn it off.. Even aside from being lame AI features, that feels like making security even worse by defaulting it ON.

also why are these AI people still doing social media clout farming, can’t their computer friend provide the illusion of that emotional service, or do they still need a human being to argue with in order to feel important

The idea that "IPs" and "franchises" can or should go on forever, endlessly reanimated every 10 years to stay "relevant" and cash in, is a recent idea of capitalist exploitation, and not a historical norm in any medium. e.g. what happened to Ultima is normal/healthy. What's happening to Halo isn't.

Mike Minotti@tolkoto.com

I think a lot about how the Ultima series helped to invent/popularize RPGs, first-person games, immersive sims, and MMORPGs, and yet basically has 0 modern relevancy.

A lot of Americans are very, very close to realizing the basic truth that if you give extremely rich people power, they will destroy you and your society, and the only way to prevent that is to actively uncreate extremely rich people and their power. But they haven't realized it yet.

they’re going to stream a government snuff film on twitch and it’s still going to be a bannable offense to play a robert yang game about jacking off your car

At this point I think it's safe to say that having a bloody revolution within your own country where you kill rich elites has massive multi-century cultural benefits.

Judah Grunstein@judah-grunstein.bsky.social

One reason social mobilization resonates at such scale in France is that the symbolism, imaginary and celebration of the revolution is so deeply rooted in the nation's political culture and DNA. And a student mobilization is particularly dangerous because they can stay out there a long time. 🤣

Anti-Prime Day starts…NOW! 🥳 Today through midnight on 10/7, enjoy free shipping site-wide, all while supporting local, independent bookstores.

Whenever anyone that the internet has formed a parasocial relationship with does something bad and is outed, you are doomed to see a bunch of spectators who clearly haven't thought very much about this stuff before try to reconstruct penal theory from first principles, every time.

"You can't have restorative justice without legal punishment, though!" That's exactly the point being made. "What does restorative justice for these people look like?" -> It looks like nothing, like jack shit, in the absence of legal consequences.

You can tell Control Resonant wasn't made in America by the way there are billboards all across Manhattan promoting awareness about climate change, unionization, and suing your employer for wrongful termination.

Hmm really interesting that all the billionaire-owned tech outlets are mysteriously refusing to run a paid ad for this.

Mark Lemley@marklemley.bsky.social

Facebook really doesn't want you to see the new documentary exposing Elon Musk Neither do TikTok or Google or the eX social media site. Since they won't accept paid advertising, let's do some free advertising. Go see Musk in theaters October 9 www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/dig...

halo is a grand epic vision of post 9/11 us militarism that was the biggest thing in the world for a hot minute. true american soft power asserting itself as the 360 stole games console dominance away from japan. all pissed away to nothing because microsoft cannot see its value it can only Extract

rotating an idea that halo is the defining media franchise of the 21st century. i look at how its been mismanaged for 20 years, no one working on it has a job, its games don't even sell anymore but. they cant let it die. the IP must continue. everything becomes halo on a long enough timeline

Capitalism is an evolving virus that ultimately desires to keep itself alive, destroy opposition, and optimize its own function to a vanishing point of total annihilation of everything that isn't itself. AI cultists claim to be afraid of things like this, but carefully scope their fears to AI.

Telling you that AI will ultimately destroy us all while remaining mum about the fact that all of their fears are also true of the artificial system (capitalism) that inexorably compels them to keep building it is an intentional distraction away from that artificial system's harms and ultimate goals

All of the systemic dooms that AI cultists claim to be afraid of (paperclip theory, roko's basilik) are already demonstrably true of the capitalist systems that act as the superstructure driving LLM development.

Insecure code isn't new, not having a blameable entity to hold responsible for it is very, very new for middle management, and they aren't sure what to do about it.

this why I laugh any time people ask me "won't slop be insecure" my sibling in christ, where do you think they learned to code insecurely from

I resigned from ExxonMobil today. I spent the last three years doing fossil fuel extraction research at both BP and ExxonMobil. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing to maximize extraction while the window to act closes, and gambling with our lives. More below.
