My brain cannot process the idea that we're not even halfway done. They are completely cooked, and also are just getting started. 641 days down, 820 to go

331 days down, just 1130 to go! So weird to be in this place where we all know it's over, but they've still got *years* to destroy things and hurt people.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

The name of New Mexico is funny because it's one of those things that you'd think is really simple (oh, it's it used to be part of old Mexico, so we'll call it New Mexico!), but it's much more complex New Mexico as the name for the area predates Mexico by several hundred years!

But, like, New America wouldn't make any sense because this is still the original America and... You know what, forget it

Idea for a macOS AI feature: recognize spam email and put it in a junk mail box. But in this case, make it actually work. Preferably don't add any extra rainbows to the UI, but I'm flexible.

Idea for an Adobe Lightroom AI feature: recognize peoples' faces and automatically apply face tagging metadata to the photos. But in this case, make it actually work.

Idea for a Google search feature: take the words that were typed into the search box and provide a list of links to pages that are most responsive to those words. But in this case, make it actually work.

Every time I stop by Instagram I am surprised at how shockingly bad it is at displaying photos. (You know, the core function it theoretically exists to fulfill.) I don’t ask for much, just a photo on a black background, like every other app. Why is it so bad? Why do people put up with this?

I don’t know why, but this one… there are just so many layers of “what are we even doing?” going on here. It’s completely unremarkable and yet… Play this for somebody in 20 years and they will not believe this is what things were like.

When witches are cackling and telling you “Fire burn and cauldron bubble,” take a step back. Breathe. Those are normal things for fire and cauldrons to do. They’re trying to mess with you.

Apparently this movie does not take place in New York City? My six-year-old memory was very literal, but I can’t find footage of the actual garbage truck from this movie anywhere…

The White House accord on AI that was signed by all the big tech oligarchs today misspells United States as “Unites States.”

Loving this so much. So many of my favorite things bundled up into one beautiful package, starting with the innocent-seeming mistake of thinking "Hawkeyes" = "Hawks".

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

🤡 Schmitt beclowns himself 🤡 Schmitt concocted an elaborate conspiracy theory that Smith traveled to Atl for a Hawks game and to collude with Fani Willis, & flashed his "evidence" before accusing Smith of perjury. There's just one problem -- his facts were totally wrong. Here's the whole sequence:

And then Klobuchar gets to brag about women's sports teams from the midwest 😂

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Klobuchar has Schmitt dead to rights: "The game in fact was in Maryland. For a senator to have false information & imply, based on confusion about name of a team, that you were in another city & somehow involved that day in what was happening in Georgia & call you a 'dirtbag' deserves an apology"

A complete (?) list of FBS college football teams that have “State” in their name, are in the Pacific/Mountain time zone, and are *not* members of the new Pac-12: - Arizona State - New Mexico State - Sacramento State - San Jose State

I sincerely don't understand what San Jose State is doing on this list. They stuck around for Nevada?

We follow Captain America's language standards in my household, so I guess my list is: Lost The Good Place Rings of Power* Andor WandaVision* Loki* Gilmore Girls Psych* Great British Baking Show A Series of Unfortunate Events* (*didn't make the list, but gets my vote)

(Other possibilities, need to watch, I know, it's embarrassing: 30 Rock, Parks and Rec, Community, Friday Night Lights, House, Scandal, Battlestar Galactica, Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, Planet Earth)

Incredible. First Secretary Mullin claimed that DHS had identified 15,903 noncitizens on Nevada’s voter roll. Then DHS officials told a skeptical Nevada, no no no, that’s just people we flagged. Here are the names of 185 people we KNOW aren’t citizens. All 185 were citizens. DHS got 100% wrong.

Got a good job down at the Data Center. I work on the line, and it's hard work but it's honest and the wage is fair; my family and I are grateful for it. I rivet the word "absolutely" onto the little apologies that chatbots do when they misunderstand a prompt.
