In his video he quickly glosses over the actual allegation, which is that Lam's should notify the authorities if they suspect someone of fraudulently using an EBT card. But the whole video makes it seem like they're running a shadow operation of cashing out people's EBT cards fraudulently.

okay the video is so rough. At the end, the two guys who don't understand that she was buying a case of spam for $120 and not just a single can, are accusing this Vietnamese woman who doesn't speak much English of working for a cartel and she's trying to explain that she just needs the spam to eat.

Go support Lam's Seafood Market (and other International District grocers, I love Hau Hau!) They shouldn't have to put up with this nonsense.

In the original video Nick sells an EBT card to a woman who then uses it to buy luncheon meat at Lam's. There is EBT fraud there, between Nick and the woman buying the card. But trying to paint Lam's as a willing participant in this scheme because they sold her the luncheon meat is a big stretch

The premise is that a woman comes up with a single can of luncheon meat and it rings up to $120. She says something in Vietnamese that Nick doesn't bother to try to translate, but it turns out if he did actual journalism he'd know she was asking for a case of the product (24 count)

Key to Seattle's ridership success is the explosion in use of its light rail, now >2.5x higher than it was pre-pandemic. San Diego has also brought riders back to light rail. But Denver has less than half the light rail ridership it had back then. www.thetransportpolitic.com/databook/us-...

The AI industry is so disgusting. Any belief I had in OpenAI going about this in good faith went away when I read this letter.

Zach Weinersmith@zachweinersmith.bsky.social

For anyone not following the drama, there's been apparently a big development in ai math, along with some accusations of very bad behavior by OpenAI. But we don't have details yet. If I understand it, Buckmaster and Levent Alpoge made a big discovery on Navier-Stokes. Events go something like this:

"Doctors, lawyers and engineers" is an international online Nazi trope. The "joke" is that non-White people are too stupid to be anything other than a criminal or someone who leeches social services. Read a Spanish newspaper about Ceuta, e.g., and you'll see "médicos y ingenieros" in the comments.

Tom Joscelyn@tomjoscelyn.bsky.social

This is yet another telling example of the Trump regime’s racism. There’s no pretense here of targeting criminals - the usual excuse for mass deportations. DHS is specifically encouraging Haitian “doctors, lawyers, scholars and engineers” to leave. Any decent society would value these people.

Great video!!! More of this!

GOOD NEWS: Katie Wilson's proposed Seattle Transit Measure renewal will be maintained as a full ten-year, 0.3% measure after amendments to water it down were defeated. The council is still deliberating on other amendments, but those were the big ones on deck today.

The Seattle City Council's select committee on the city's transportation benefit district is kicking off now. This morning Katie Wilson's proposed Seattle Transit Measure renewal is getting amended before going to the voters. We're about to see how significantly.

Telling people they're required to buy tickets using an app to ride transit when both of the main ways people pay for transit are not working is ridiculous. I know in practice they probably won't enforce it but this is such bad optics.

imo the organizing is the democratic election where we elect politicians. We need a government that just operates efficiently instead of always listening to the loudest external community group. It reduces the value of elections if every external group also gets an outsized say in things!
