Setting aside whether the a UK AI fund is a good idea or not, this site is embarrassing. UK gov sites normally have a stellar reputation for usability and accessibility. They have to work for all citizens after all. How did this mess of scrolljacking and gratuitous parallax effects get approved?!?

I just noticed that the website for the UK Gov Sovereign AI Fund looks a bit like it's promoting either a video game or a new Star Wars movie www.sovereignai.gov.uk

It’s astounding to me that any human being would allow a device like this to have access to every detail of their life, especially a device sold by this serial privacy violator.

over the past few weeks several AI evaluation/cybersecurity experts have explained how what's happening is a result of human incompetence rather than "AI going rogue". I'm begging the media to show a shred of journalistic integrity and stop parroting what altman or amodei say

I’m so done with tech CEOs sharing their beliefs, I now need to find a different code editor, password manager and probably a new bookkeeping system.

Meta and X have been quietly downranking external links for ages, but we're now entering a new era of open hostility toward the open web. It's a great time to build your own website, free from any billionaires demanding a tithe for things that have always been free.

Fucking hell. Facebook is now limiting the number of links that a page or professional profile can include in a post to TWO PER MONTH, unless you pay them $7.99 a month. Fucking assholes.

Digital Ocean ended their $50/month sponsorship of GNOME and FlatHub and went radio silent on CSS-Tricks right around the time they found a spare three million dollars to burn on “sponsoring” a high-profile racist’s dotfiles repo. Impossible to see this as anything but a statement of their values.

I'm continuously surprised by how many news site paywalls are overcome by simply web browsers' "reader mode". You'd think that if your business depends on it, you'd take the time to truncate articles for non-subscribers server-side, no? I'd have thought that's an obvious requirement.

I had been toying with the idea of moving from 1Password to @proton.me password - mainly to also get their other services - for a while. Guess it's time to take a closer look. Any folks here got experience with Proton Password - especially on Android? Does the autofill work well?

In CSS you can feature detect support for selectors, properties + values, and at-rules using `@supports`. But how do you feature detect a change to an underlying implementation, or two existing properties suddenly working together? Enter `named-feature()` … → brm.us/named-feature

Well this is just cool! It even has the invisible cone between an item and its submenu so it doesn't close as you move diagonally. Video made in @polypane.app BTW :)

Wow, I had no idea. You can already test Open-UI's proposed native menu elements in Chromium (enable "Experimental Web Platform features" flag in about://flags first). Full native menu bar support with just HTML code! Read the explainer: open-ui.org/components/m... Demo: jsbin.com/qorupiwivu/1...
