If we refuse to hold him accountable he gets away with it. There is one Constitutional remedy for a corrupt criminal president: Impeachment. If the Republicans refuse to convict him make that their problem not your problem.
Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

These people need to understand that cowardly Republican senators voting "no" is not a reason for inaction. He is guilty of many crimes. So, impeach him, immediately, for his many crimes and make those cowards stand on their vote.

oh i like this one a lot, especially @3blue1brown.com 's commentary on credit and ownership and, approximately, meaning-making it resonates with a central conflict i have with society; y'all way too into 'status' and 'credit' and it's a wonder anything useful ever gets done in that context

it's a family tradition now
BREAKING Brazil's defeated presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro refuses to recognize President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's victory on Sunday. "It is impossible to acknowledge the result," he said from Brasilia, adding that "I am going to request the annulment of these elections"

"seismic" is right. This student-led movement started after a building collapse almost exactly two years ago. They kept protesting and organizing, built a political party from scratch, and just blew past projections for their electoral success. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o...
The long-serving strongman leader of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, has conceded defeat in an election that pitted him and his right-wing party against a diverse student-led opposition movement that spent two years protesting his government.

“prediction market”
The Brazil election story today is already wild. Alleged efforts by some local mayors to stymie public transportation to suppress votes. Extended voting hours. Now vote is coming in, Bolsonaro with a slim lead, and yet the Polymarket has totally flipped in the last few hours towards Lula:

In 08/09, as the state was going insolvent, they had the choice to keep UC tuition at current levels OR maintain the prisons at the peak three-strikes levels. Guess which they chose.
The soaring costs of public universities is a political decision. When these schools predominantly served white students, they tended to be free (UC, CCNY, etc.) But as the number of students of color has increased, funding for the public universities has decreased. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/b...

Folks interested in this theme should check out The Thought They Were Free, by an American professor who interviewed 10 ordinary Germans in the early 50s. It reads like a lot of interviews with MAGA chuds who fein embarrassment but below the surface are unrepentant www.goodreads.com/en/book/show...

Been reading about a lot of very bad but entirely ordinary people throughout history for the next season of Past Lives (Everyday Villains). This guy is utterly typical. 1) Doesn't think he's doing anything wrong. 2) Permission structure in a system of hierarchical authority. 3) Benefits materially.

Notes on Kimi K3.1 - this one is a big deal, the first time an open weights (well, soon-to-be open weights) model has competed this credibly with the current frontier simonwillison.net/2026/Oct/23/...

"6-9 months behind the frontier" is really not going to hold up much longer
Kimi K3.1 is announced as 3.1 Pro. The benchmark scores look to be clearly the strongest current open weight model, if the weights are released as they claim by November 4th. They are very impressive scores. www.kimi.ai/blog/kimi-k3...
