I used to rewrite board game rulebooks as a hobby. I was getting good at it, but something still felt wrong about it.
Then I took grad school classes in technical writing.
And then I started to hate all rulebooks.
And I had to write 90 pages and a new rulebook about it.
Latest draft on my site.
Dressmaker: I need someone who knows what they're doing to explain how to make a dress with floral-print fabric that doesn't look awful. How to sew the patterns together with patterns that don't match up across the seams and somehow it looks okay.
Jesus Christ: Japanese horse girls have to cancel their two-day concert in Los Angeles because the Trump administration repeatedly refused to issue visas for performers to enter the U.S.
I personally would not piss off the anime demographic two weeks before Election Day:

I've seen the Umamusume subreddit while browsing /r/popular before, so I had to see if they're talking about this.
Apparently the vibe among horsewaifu fans is "American horsegirl is sad that none of her overseas friends came to her barbecue."

I like to think this headline was targeted at truck drivers in general so that I don't feel like it's targeting me specifically.
The sheets wore out long ago but I'm pretty sure my comforter at home still has a tag that reads "COLLEGE '09".
If El-Sayed had gone “I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m not actually Muslim I’m fine with deporting them please vote for me” he would just look weak and convince no one. Anti-trans Dems are falling into the same trap.
I have no idea if the Beetlejuice cartoon holds up. I suspect there's some problematic stuff in there. But as a kid, it felt like the most subversive thing on TV that I was allowed to watch, and I'll always respect it for that.
In retrospect, "animated series based on live action movies" was a load bearing sub-genre of cartoons. Even if they weren't good, studios greenlighting 52 episode show orders of stuff like this meant a healthier industry.
To shake off the brain-melting Kickstarter mania, I'm just kinda doin' stuff. Goofin' around, following my smile, whatever comes to mind. Apparently, my subconscious wants to design a few sets of ridiculous and eye-rending playing cards. I'm not sure where this is coming from, but I'm having fun. 🤷
Seeing a lot of people call Biddy Blas a Glup Shitto, but he's only a blorbo right now. He has to show up in a second piece of media with the expectation that you already know who he is. THEN he's a Glup Shitto.
I'm sincerely shocked at how much I'm enjoying Dressmaker. I've never had any interest in fashion. But now I'm suffering from an IKEA effect where I keep rebuilding the dresses I'm working on, even if they meet requirements already, because I want them to be GOOD.
Some of my favorite builds:
There are two wolves. One always lies. One controls the lever of trolley track. They're in a state of superposition inside a box. On the trolley are infinite monkeys at infinite typewriters going to an infinite hotel. The trolley must first travel halfway, but before that a quarterway, and so on...
I played LoL for a couple years when it first came out. There's a moment halfway through the campaign story that made me go "I can't believe that you dared to reference that." It was a good time.
Whenever AI bros claim that they're gonna sell the AI-created product they've created, I remember this scene from Get Shorty.
"So that's all there is to it?"
"Yeah!"
"Then what the fuck do I need you for?"
I bought Dressmaker to do something different and to be in on the hot new indie game that everyone's doing.
I was not told that this would be a game about packing shapes into the most efficient space possible.
OH NO I'M GONNA LOSE SLEEP TO THIS.
The sewing minigame is a little annoying and I wanted to say it takes too much time. But then I spent so much time trying 50 different configurations to get all these shapes into exactly a space that satisfied my COMPULSION TO NOT WASTE ANY SPACE
ADIOS RETURNS! At the lowest price it will ever go! That's right: it costs less than the price of an Arby's Reuben sandwich!

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse:

We're big fans of local Saint Paul band Alligator Orchestra. After hearing songs they wrote about Root, we commissioned them to record a Kart theme song. They came back with "Don't Look Down!", two minutes of raucous pop-punk that's perfect for Kart's reckless downhill races.
Howard V. Brown did a lot of great 1930s pulp sci-fi magazine covers. Nevertheless, his June 1924 cover to "Scientific American" might be my favorite work of his, despite not actually being science fiction. I love the nonchalant surrealism.
i was tempted to check out pax ren recently, did some research on the rules, and some random reddit comment set me towards phil eklund's essay in the back of Neanderthal and i have sworn off of sierra madre/ion game design ever since lol
The Loopler is incremental resource gathering disguised as tableau-building roguelike. To beat each stage you need to score X based on total time played, time per loop, and points scored per loop. It doesn't feel deep or interactive but I'm happy to waste a few evenings on a good incremental game.
And it has a bit of that Balatro-boss-blind nastiness that's like "I spent the whole run building up a high-scoring gate with a 2x-to-next-gate modifier in front of it and the last stage DISABLED THAT FUCKING GATE BECAUSE OF COURSE IT DID"

This week's t-shirt is a very silly joke for fans of linguistics, Ghibli, and milky drinks.

I completely understand why this would bother the technical writing expert (who I would never deign to correct), but I completely understand someone trying to write "My husband's and my" and getting angry at the asymmetry of it.
Lots of comments about The Game, but could we do any worse than that? Or something in the same ballpark?
I'm gonna design a game called "A Thing I Can't Describe" and see what happens when you try to search for help with a thing I can't describe.
New comic! There’s a fine line between a memorable game title and something completely impossible to Google. 😅
