Third printing! Sincere thanks to everyone who has supported the book since it's release in late April. Grateful for your readership and support.

NEWS 🚨: A new printing of Nerd Inferno: The Essential Evan Dorkin is hitting stores now! Order your copy: https://bit.ly/4cBiNwY A brand-new omnibus collecting Milk and Cheese, The Eltingville Club, and Dork for the first time! By @evandorkin.bsky.social

Bought new markers to replace the dried and dead soldiers, using them to finish up a long-due commission and drawings to (try to) sell at Comicopia in two weeks. Have to sell a few to pay for the markers. Spendy-ass things. Thank goodness I don't paint.

Packed up the Viz Phoenix books, waiting for the upcoming new editions from @kodansha.us. Still needed two volumes to complete the set, wish I knew about the Kodansha project when I spent $70 on a volume a few months ago. First world nerd problem.

I can read Little Orphan Annie again after finally snagging volume 10. Hopefully I can find an affordable copy of volume 12 (the last one I need to complete the IDW run) before I finish 11. Never thought I'd enjoy this comic so much, always shied away from it bc of Gray's politics/assumed sappiness.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

For two years, student-led protests have raged against Aleksandar Vučić and his corrupt government in Serbia. Today, in parliamentary elections, he was toppled. One of the most sustained protest movements in recent European history has succeeded. Resistance works.

Lula has taken the overall, countrywide lead back. With 62% of precincts counted, he is ahead 50.6% to 49.4%, which is an edge of roughly 900,000 votes. He is also getting the shift he needs (compared to the first round) in virtually every state that has reported most of the vote.

Now that this is out in the open, I can say that a certain book I did for a certain publisher affiliated with one of these people had generative expand used on my cover art without my permission, and it wasn’t removed before publication

Oh, shit. www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/...

First 5 TTRPGs played: 1. D&D basic box set (bought with my friend Rob) 2. Gangbusters 3. Traveller (modded to be a Star Wars game) 4. Gamma World 5. Champions We may have played Boot Hill, foggy memory. Rolled up characters twice for Call of Cthulhu but it took so gd long everyone had to go home.

My neurologist isn't recommending I get the carpal surgery, at least not yet. I'm on meds for it and my hip. I'm still drawing, just super-slowly. I haven't been drawing print comics bc of a number of factors -- commissions, art sales and the Patreon frankly pay better and are less wear and tear.

Andrew Debly@andrewdebly.bsky.social

Not to pry but will your hand ever fully recover via physiotherapy or surgery? I only ask this because I would like to see you back in action full time drawing again (if that's what you want) or, at the very least, pain free and drawing when you feel like it, for the rest of your life.

There's a second volume and a really nice hardcover Library Edition collecting both books and all the extras with a lovely new cover by Veronica FIsh.

Bill Moakler@bmoakny.bsky.social

Speaking of your lesser known works, is there more Blackwood past Vol.1 and if so, is it still in print?

As usual, not time/bad hand means no new Halloween-themed art this year. So I'm just going to post some of the old stuff again for the new followers and you long-timers can skip it. First up, these two goldurned happy farmers from MOTEL HELL (1980).

For a long time I would get asked this same question about Milk & Cheese. For the last few years it's been Eltingville. And while I'd love it if more folks checked out my other work as well (esp Beasts of Burden), I'm not complaining. I'm grateful for the Eltingville fandom. Reignited my career.

Redy@quercitrondaisy.bsky.social

@evandorkin.bsky.social Hi! I've been wondering, does it ever get repetitive that people mostly talk and ask about the Eltingville Club and much less about your other works, or is it just nice to see that even decades later, it still wins new fans and people are still begging for the show?

As we approach the midterms, remember that the Alt National Park Service is a merch sales operation claiming without evidence to be a group of federal employees, and is not a genuine source of news about elections of any kind. Please get your election info from a local, reputable source.

Hey, DSA friends in NYC! I'm running to be a convention delegate! I'm one of the few folks running in SBK who's emphasizing tech issues (I'm a member of @nycdsatech.bsky.social), & I'd be honored to get your vote if you're a DSA member there! (I'm easy to find - the only Greg on that ballot lol.) ❤️

Fans of the Fredric March transformation in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde should see Sh! The Octopus (1937) for the freakiest use of that effect. It's not much of a movie, and if you can't stomach an hour of Hugh Herbert going "Who Whoo!" or Alan Jenkins banging into things, the clip is easily searched.

Late Night With The Devil hit Tubi and I was happy to finally see it but it was a big disappoinment. It should've worked for me, it draws from sources, lore and Fortean stuff I love. Failed as found footage, never convincing as a real show, as 70s, the way people talk. Should have improvised dialog.

People talk about the originality of LNWTD. See Ghostwatch for a better example. See WNUF Halloween Special and the Halloween Mega Tape for more fun examples. The originality is, perhaps, tying the backstory into what's happening, but it didn't work for me at all. Neither did the ending.

Ghostwatch x The Exorcist x Larry Sanders high concept could have been amazing. The low-key execution reminded me more of the old Insight show (religious Twilight Zone, look it up, it's a rabbit hole). The influences/refs/nods/homages were all up my alley, but it's a lukewarm misfire as a movie.

The show never feels real. And in found footage you need to be convinced. You need real-feeling acting and dialog. You can't just throw sideburns and big lapels on actors. All superficial. Nothing felt like 70s talk/variety shows (except Fernwood?). Who would watch Jack Delroy's unfunny, dull show?

The horror never works. Little tension, especially if we know where things are going, we know what's getting a call back and we pretty much can guess why. Bad effects usually don't bother me but the effects were probelmatic. CGI screams modern filmmaking, for period/found footage that's death.

Doing it as found footage (sort of) was a bad choice. The backstage material would have been better if shot as a regular film is. It never felt real, it felt forced. The main character would never have had a successful late night show. The acting was weak, esp the Amazing Randi analog, terrible.

Opening exposition dump was too much, once you hear "The Grove" you know where this is going. And then the wife, okay, make a note of that for later when we get to the horror. ILater we get Checkov's sacrificial knife. It lays everything out and proceeds like no one's seen a horror movie before.

Finally watched the Paramount Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and it deserves to be on the same shelf w/the Universal films. The use of a moving camera elevates it from the stage-stodginess of Dracula (I love Dracula, but it's stiff/creaky as hell and the ending, well, sucks). On Tubi, Happy Halloween!
