Can we just collectively admit now that the impact of AI has mostly been negative, and that it should be heavily regulated?

re: omarchy trying to create parallel infra to subvert the linux community and kick trans/female/black people out i know some people think that sounds crazy but DHH literally is doing a podcast tour saying that is exactly what he's doing lol

I'm tired of the software I use getting jankier and jankier recently. It's been great at slowly getting me to use computers less, but it makes the times I do that much more painful.

The 11th WebAIM Screen Reader Users Survey is open until 31 August: https://webaim.org/projects/screenreadersurvey11/ If you use a screen reader, it'll take about 10 minutes to contribute to the body of knowledge around screen readers, which ones are used, and how.

Everybody in the "climate space" (which means everyone on earth...) needs to understand these mind-blowing figures. Google's "total electricity consumption jumped from 31 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2024 to 43 TWh in 2025." In ONE year. The AI corporate arms race is eating the world.

KetAnthropic JoshAI@ketanjoshi.co

NEW BLOG FOR YOU Google's energy consumption numbers in their new climate report are mind-blowing. 2 years ago they flipped from linear to exponential growth, and their climate impact is blowing out, too. A WILD testament to the obscene bloat and waste of GenAI: ketanjoshi.co/2026/07/01/g...

The tech industry should've wisened up to the need for organised labour a long time ago. The next best moment is now.

henry โœท@strange.website

don't ever say "spicy autocomplete" in my presence the debate of whether or not this technology works detracts from the implications of its widespread corporate deployment, regardless of efficacy.

Is being told to "bridge the gap between the CTO vibe-coding and my team's delivery" the moment I should examine my options?

I'm not sure how Mozilla focusing on security bug fixes is a tell of anything. It's great that Firefox is getting more secure, but this isn't mythos, this is dedicating the time to focus on these issues, LLMs have been decent at spotting those for a while now. But once again, gotta sell the hype.

Philippe Serhal@philippeserhal.com

If you were still unsure whether the Mythos announcement was just a marketing stunt: hacks.mozilla.org/2026/05/behi... Prepare.

I did not have Slay the Spire 2 reminding us that gamergate is, alas, alive and well on my bingo card for 2026, but here we are

Huge thanks to @kattenbarge.bsky.social for joining me to debunk this absurd viral claim that โ€œfeministโ€ IG pages and newsletters have promoted to manufacture consent for some very dangerous policies

What is the collective noun for people who work at Google? I propose 'an arrogance of Googlers'. Individually, they're lovely people โ€” the ones I've met, anyway. But put them in a room together with some promo incentives and they become an absolute menace

Jake Archibald@jakearchibald.com

So, Chrome's "web standard" Prompt API: Mozilla: Opposed WebKit: Opposed Microsoft: Several concerns W3C TAG: Several concerns Developers: Mostly negative Chrome: Ships anyway. A sad time for web standards. But, I guess someone at Google will get promoted, so 'every cloudโ€ฆ'

I'm starting to see a lot more "Get on with the program or get out" when it comes to AI adoption at work. This is how you get workers to divest from their work. And honestly, this really stinks of snake-oil. I'm so tired. The church of emacs was a joke, stop making tools into objects of worship

After reading a lot of the Claude Code base that was leaked taught me two things 1. I have never been more reassured than I am now. Software Developers will be around for a long time. 2. Claude Code has a hidden command to hide that a contribution was made by a Claude employee

"AI is just another tool" No. Tools don't have logins, subscriptions, or silent updates that change how they function. You own tools. You control tools. AI is a *platform* until this is what coding with LLMs means (and if it becomes a tool we should remember that some tools require training to use)

Alice โœจ@welltypedwit.ch

like, the absolute minimum you would need to do to make ai generated code sustainable would be to transition to local open models. "everyone should use llms" is just absolutely not an acceptable option when it means "everyone should pay a small number of increasingly powerful and evil companies"

installed the dunning-kruger machine and it's frankly astounding that they built it to be an expert in every single subject matter except the one in which i am well-trained

This is indicative of a mindset which essentially says "there can be no such thing as scholarship or intelligence when it comes from a group I've been conditioned to demonize" and we'd all be better off if we realized these people are simply like this. There's nothing to persuade here, it's bigotry.

Replying to @ramiismail.com

Because the lessons of the Holocaust is not that we "shouldn't do a Holocaust", it's that we should oppose the conditions that made the cruelty of the Holocaust possible at all: authoritarianism, laws of the strongest, scapegoating and oppression of minorities, normalizing apartheid & genocide, etc.

This book was foundational for me all the way back then, I cannot recommend this enough.

My book, Accessibility For Everyone, is now free and online as a website. accessibilityforeveryone.site The book was first published by A Book Apart in 2017 but it holds up! It covers web accessibility for designers, developers, content folks, and really everyone who works in tech.

Yes itโ€™s cold in Minnesotaโ€”but we embrace it. John and I were in Hastings with Mayor Fasbender for Hockey Day Minnesota to watch my alma mater, Wayzata High School, take on Rogers. Photo taken with parents right after their son scored a goal!

Ah yes, tone policing and ignoring the argument is always the way to win an argument.

Added an "LLM shaming" section to RFD 576 rfd.shared.oxide.computer/rfd/0576#_ll...

It is still wild to me that people can keep a straight face while calling AI value-neutral when plenty of the harms have been documented. It's not really a matter of opinions at this point.

Universal control is really getting super buggy in more recent versions, making mouse cursors disappear in the ether. Am I the only one?

How that sort of thing is tolerated in any community is mind-boggling to me. That guy is absolutely radioactive. I was considering a switch to NixOS on the Bazzite computer, but now I know what I'm doing over the Christmas break.

React@react.dev

Researchers have found two new vulnerabilities in React Server Components while attempting to exploit the patches last week. These are new issues, separate from the critical CVE last week. The patch for React2Shell remains effective for the Remote Code Execution exploit.

Hmmm, oxfmt might not quite be there for me. It's in alpha so I can't be too hard on it, but some of it is perf-related. Coming from biome, the json perf feels really underwhelming (Yes, I know, it's handed off to prettier)

I'm seeing more and more people jump ship, using either codeberg or @tangled.org (me included). Not a significant amount, but the cracks are starting to show...

I've never seen the industry so reluctant to spend. I had a company with 9 figures (yes, in USD) in revenue turn down a low five figure quote for a custom solution that would be revenue generating. As a side note, if you're looking for a web swiss army knife, your gal is free in Q1~
