This is AWESOME!! EventBridge now delivers events to cross-account targets directly without having to send them to the default bus in the target account first. More details here: aws.amazon.com/about-aws/wh...

Yep. I think a lot about "pinch" the concept I first learned from mobile game design that by making something inconvenient, you can charge people to make that inconvenience go away. And once you learn to spot pinch in all aspects of society, you can't unsee it.
Nothing works. Airlines. Making movies. College. Retirement. Mass transit. Medicine. Housing. Everything is a scam, or on its way to becoming a scam. Nothing works and it’s all by design, because every hitch in the process is another way for the rich to make more money.

When people are nostalgic about Ye Olde Internette and wonder why we can't recapture that, this is why: the old internet was atomized **and that was good, actually**. But no one's gonna become a billionaire off of 3 million different self-hosted niche interest phpBB sites so here we are.
This is good, but just slightly misses the point — we don’t just have to kill the idea of the “one killer app” everyone uses for community online. It’s recognizing that we’ve *always* been using _lots_ of sites & apps. https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/we-dont-need-a-new-twitter

I don’t think it can be emphasized enough that large language models were never intended to do math or know facts; literally all they do is attempt to sound like the text they’re given, which may or may not include math or facts. They don’t do logic or fact checking — they’re just not built for that
Unfortunately, it repeatedly offers incorrect answers for straightforward math questions. 🧪

the same companies that have made it illegal for me to copy blu rays for my personal use want to copy people for their commercial use
As Hollywood executives claim they can't afford to pay actors better wages, they're also spending lavishly on AI, with Netflix offering $900,000 for a single AI product manager. 87% of actors earn under $26k. https://theintercept.com/2023/07/25/strike-hollywood-ai-disney-netflix/

Calling libraries as the “original coworking spaces” reinforces how there’s just no way we’d be able to build + fund libraries in modern day society - entirely free centers for learning and community!! - if they didn’t already exist. https://wapo.st/4470IAr

I realized I had never demoed the little feature I contributed to #Python 3.11, methods to help introspect string.Template. So I made a thing that interactively prompts you for values to interpolate across a JSON document: https://gist.github.com/benkehoe/3fd5c2ca04093618f486c42d87e9cb1c
