A reminder, because it is almost that time of year: More children are killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, by far. www.vox.com/future-perfe... If you're a parent, I hope you'll do what you can to keep kids safe. If you're driving on Saturday, PLEASE exercise extra caution.

This is crucial. We MUST reform M5+M50. If we aren't capable of that unpopular but straightforward change, we can't enact the demographic changes otherwise necessary to save PPS. And if we can't use *this* momentum to challenge M5+M50, it ain't happening.

Councilor Mitch Green@councilorgreen.bsky.social

Specifically on revenue reform, we are calling for: 1. Adoption of the kicker methodology bill that Rep. Gamba has carried 2. Taking on Measures 5 and 50 directly 3. Fully decouple from HR 1 We're also calling for action on local revenue measures under consideration by Council (i.e., Fair Share).

Sorry for self-promo but I wrote this last year to answer these exact questions. I also recommend going to Shower’s Pass and Clever Cycles to see what they suggest. Bring a change of shoes in your bag. Rain pants can go under dresses (tuck the skirt in so it doesn’t get wet).

About Portland's election: it's important to remember that the Democratic Party of OR and majority of your organized labor support the status quo, not progressive change. Grasping to hold onto power, these fauxgressives working against the DSA candidates are de facto moving your place to the right.

This is great. @pbotinfo.bsky.social should allow it at every intersection, not just those with signs, as state law already prohibits parking within 20 feet of marked and unmarked crosswalks.

Feels notable that all the moderates supportive of the gajillion dollar dwindling seem to have somehow forgotten to mention the stadium deal in any part of their campaign trails in the past couple weeks after that polling came out

have not seen a lot of attention on the moda center lately. I think this issue has not really been widely appreciated as an example of gross fiscal mismanagement by the mayor and his allies, and I think voters should consider if they are endorsing this kind of graft on their ballots this year 🧵

Very impressive data analysis and presentation by whichever nerds put this together. i wonder if in 2028 we could ask city council/mayoral candidates to take a pledge they’ll reject/return any check from any donor who gave money to any statewide republican

On Friday, the Oregon Climate Action Commission heard updates on the Statewide Transportation Strategy report. The report provides progress on the state’s effort in reducing emissions from the transportation sector, which accounts for 35% of the state’s overall emissions.

Hard to overstate how big of news this is. Now it's time for both Portland and the state of Oregon to change their codes to the IBC standard and allow construction of new single-stair multifamily housing buildings at least to four stories. Sunlight suites for all!

Stephen Jacob Smith@stephenjacobsmith.com

The 2027 IBC has been officially published, and it allows single-stair apartment buildings up to four stories! See the new section 1006.3.3.2 codes.iccsafe.org/content/IBC2...

This is sound advice for most. But the few, the proud, the certified civics freaks wait til November because we want to get all the mailers and calls and texts and door knocks.

If you vote early you can save progressive candidates money on mailers AND avoid all the annoying campaign calls and texts lol

I’m not convinced a sales tax is inherently more regressive, especially if it isn’t levied on basic goods as some states do dream scenario would be a gas tax or other tax on cars, but our state constitution likely forbids it. big picture, having zero transit whatsoever is significantly regressive

oregon badly needs big picture structural revenue reform and i think a sales tax would inevitably be a likely component of any theoretical grand bargain that created new and reliable revenue streams to keep the state afloat, along with tax relief on other mechanisms

I’m going to mail mine as usual. I have confidence in the county elections office tracking ballot status and I have an odd sense of pride in the USPS being involved in our state process . If it were to not arrive and I don’t receive a confirmation, I have time to cure it.

I'm not sure what the intention is when groups like Portland for All tell people not to rank any of the moderate candidates in D3/4, but the *effect* is that it's telling progressive voters to throw out whatever influence they have over which moderates get elected.

David Binnig@binnig.bsky.social

But if the TKL/Morillo/Leon voters had ranked Novick somewhere in their 4th through 6th ranks, TKL and Morillo still win, but those surplus votes + transferred elimination votes put Novick above 25%, shutting out Torres. (Whether they rank Torres below Novick or not at all is immaterial.)
