I am delighted when people block me. It means they've decided that their Bluesky experience will be better without me in it, and availed themselves of the tools at their disposal to rid themselves of my pernicious self. Good for them! I celebrate their actions! Everyone deserves their best Bluesky.

Carrie Fisher said it's none of our business what others think of us, & who am I to argue with Space Mom's logic? Everyone should protect their peace on the interwebs, even if that means they're protecting it from me.

So far I haven't been active enough here to come across anyone I'd feel a need to block, but on other platforms I have been known to block people even if I agree with them just because it stresses me to see the thing they want to talk about.

I was put on someone’s “undiscover” list they made for themselves, subtitled “no offense but I’m being choosy on this platform” and immediately stole the idea because it’s really good!

I tried to create an "antisocial network" for misanthropes like myself. It would reject all friend requests and auto block anyone who tried to post on a user's wall. I thought it would be a hit, but struggled to get funding (maybe I should have given the VCs I reached-out to my contact details.)

I can't say I'd be delighted if somebody blocked me, but I'd be neutral. I don't even know how to find out, but I have never cared before, so I'm unlikely to care on this service. Except if it were somebody I respect, then I'd wonder if I inadvertently did something that I should try to fix.

All social media is brain poison without relentless curation of your own experience. I welcome blocks, anyone who fucks up the vibes should be blocked. It's not personal - it's gardening. Your feed should be filled with things that you want to see and few if any things you don't!

Blocking is great. Works perfectly. Problem is block lists that perfectly innocent people get added to by either mistake or maliciously by people who don't like them. Block lists are a bad idea, especially since you don't know who gets added to them.

Also, fun fact: if I see people who seem particularly put out that they have to share the sky with me, I will often go ahead and block them so they are no longer troubled by my presence and can now have an improved, Scalzi-free experience. It's absolutely no trouble at all! You're welcome!

My most baffling block was: someone I didn't recognize followed me, so I DMed them to ask if we knew each other. That resulted in an immediate block. I saw their icon blur out in the middle of the chat display.

My issue is that some hundred or so people blocked me after I was put on a list of Pro MAGA's even, tho I'm a never Trumper who wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire and my bladder was painfully full.

You kinda have to feel sorry for someone whose ego is tied to how many people pay attention to them, and who hasn't learned the lesson that no one has to like you, ever, for any reason, and it's perfectly ok. 🤷‍♀️

Sometimes it isn’t about whether they “like” you or not, it’s about the content being pushed. I tend to mute/block people who push a lot of corp media links. It’s not personal, it’s just one way of curating my feed.

New kid here. So far ive only blocked one person who followed me. Everything they had posted had been removed by the modmins for inappropriate content. Everything.
