one of my favorite things about tiny children is that it does not matter what their race, gender or culture is they all love Garbage Truck equally

I went to a two-year-old’s birthday party today and their parents booked an LA Waste Management trash truck to come park out front and the way these kids RAN to see this thing up close!!! The WM reps also had party favors and coloring books. Lowkey want to book it for my own birthday

it is, to a 2 year old, the ultimate car. and they already like cars. (car was my daughter's first word and that is *not* entirely an LA thing; 'twas the same for her mother and maternal grandfather in Traverse City)

I've been told that as a young child I liked to be carted around in a wagon around the neighborhood to watch the garbage truck go. I also remember filling a little trash bin with leaves and dumping it onto my face, and according to my mom I would then continue smashing the bin into my face

Mine at around 2 couldn’t quite articulate ‘tr’ sounds or ‘p’ sounds, so “dump truck” became “dumb fuck.” Hilarious and he loved dump trucks.

My son was obsessed with garbage trucks when he was little. I’ll never forget the time we stopped to talk to a police officer & all my son wanted to do was excitedly talk about the garbage truck across the street.

"Garbage truck! Garbage truck!" is the refrain near one fence at my job. One of the drivers puts on a whole show for the kids, pushing all the buttons to move every little arm on the front of the truck like it's waving. You should have seen the day the parking lot had a sweeper vehicle

This winter the garbage men started a faux "war" with all the kids at the bus stop--they would egg them on to throw snowballs, and if a snowball managed to hit the truck the guy on the back would dramatically fall off like he'd been shot they have earned the neighborhood kids' undying loyalty

I wonder if anyone has studied this, adults clearly don’t give the garbage truck the same esteem as children do, and why not? Adults if anything know how important the garbage truck is in a way that children do not. Why then are kids so much more into it

I wanted to be garbage man til I was about 12 because hanging off the back riding through the neighborhood seemed like the height of human accomplishment and fun.

I grew up Egyptian in Kuwait, the most glittery princess of girly girls and would say proudly when someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, “garbage truck driver!” Even after an MFA my dad wouldn’t stop teasing me about it.

Honestly, I'm not a big car guy or anything like that but large heavy machinery is just cool. There's just something so fascinating how we built these behemoths and that some of them have such niche specific use cases. We built a giant truck specifically to pick up and crush trash? That's cool

Truth. 5yo nibling loves all trucks and things that go so it always made sense that Garbage Truck was an object of fascination. but 3yo nibling who mostly likes stuffies and animals *also* is fascinated by Garbage Truck.

The guy driving the truck here is an older dude with a white beard so we affectionately call him Trash Santa, handling the other end of regular Santa’s job

our younger child has emotional regulation issues and one Thanksgiving morning we could not get him to settle down so we went on a walk around the neighborhood and there, miraculously, was Garbage Truck so we followed Garbage Truck around for 40 minutes and he was happy

Grandson has a thing for diggers. We had 'give parents some alone time' duty. We took him to an art gallery at the beach . Had to have been 300 costal landscapes. 3 rooms down, in the background, was the impression of a digger. A scream of complete joy and chasing a toddler through the gallery.

When my older kiddo was 18 months old, we visited London. One night we were in a pub when the garbage truck came through the alley, and we watched the whole collection! A couple of pub guys seemed to think I was nuts, but kiddo loved it. :-)

Early in the pandemic my wife and son mapped out the route through the neighhourhood so that when the garbage truck got too far ahead they could take a shortcut and catch it again, easily spending several hours every week chasing after it. “Garbage truck walks” were a highlight of the week.

Could’ve been me when I was a kiddo. Fast forward 30 years, and somehow I married a woman with a dad in scrap steel and trucking. I went to the yard with him a few times. Saw some cars get crushed! It was amazing! Huge shit eating grin on my face the whole time.

Whenever my friend had to give her toddler a little haircut, he would never sit still and *always* wiggle out of the chair. She had the brilliant idea to put a chair by the front window on trash day, and as soon as they could hear the truck down the street, he sat still and she'd start trimming 😂

Oh I wish you were closer, we’re hosting the annual Big Truck day at our rec centre next week! Honestly the best day of the year for seeing marvelously happy local little ones (and grown ups, it must be said).

very important Garbage Truck video for those of you with small children, or those of you who are small children at heart

A very long time ago, I worked in telecom and WM was one of our biggest clients. I managed to secure a really good deal for a new call center they were kitting out, so VP I worked for arranged for me to go on a ride-a-long because I had spoken of my love of large engines. Carlos and Mr. Jacob rocked

I was not allowed to even sit in the driver's seat, no matter how nicely I asked, but I did get to look at engines and one of their mechanic bays and that was soo cool :D Anyway, thanks for sharing the video, trucks are cool

My son is 15. He is very delayed due to his various medical conditions. We usually watch 2 to 3 hours of garbage truck videos a day and he gets immense joy from them all. Laughing and screaming as they throw the bags and bulk items in the back and crushing them.

Visited my friend who had quadruplet boys age 5. At one point the boys were scattered about the house. My friend put on a DVD of big trucks & bulldozers & such. Boys arrived sprinting from all directions.

There is an entire Netflix show called Trash Truck about a sentient garbage truck, raccoon, bear and child who are all friends

Every May the Public Works Experience, an infrastructure museum based out of a working sewage pumping station right next to the Inner Harbor, holds a Big Trucks Day and every year it’s always PACKED with young families.
