Jesus Christ can’t you people just let millennials express some entirely deserved outrage and anger over getting hit with yet another major financial crisis without parachuting in to finger wag at us about it

I'll add for Gen X and late Boomers some outrage. We experienced, the 1993 the health care non-profit insurance collapse leaving millions of us with healthcare debt that was suppose to be covered by our insurance. We have all been hurt with the rinse and repeat of financial crises.

There needs to be a word. It's not "reply guy" but it's similar... those who troll the timelines for one or two particular subjects only to interject their snark, commentary, 'splanations. (and on my timeline) to then be blocked.

Every time I get close to my birthday I always think about how almost every single economic crisis I lived through was arbitrarily caused by greedy assholes wanting to make themselves a few extra dollars at the cost of: -The entire housing market -The entire job market -Every public service/utility

I graduated college in 2009 and faced a long stretch of unemployment. I eventually landed a job with the federal government. I’ve made significantly less than I would in the private sector but I never tried to leave because job security was the single most important thing for me. WHOOPS.

I had someone comment that if I was under a certain age I was never gonna be able to retire anyways and I'm like "I'm supposed to be 5 years from retirement?" JFC people are the worst

“Tell that to the generation that lived through ww2!” Oh you mean my grandpa who spent the post-war years buying a 2-story house in a nice Seattle neighborhood, putting his 4 kids through college, retiring comfortably, all on the salary of a *checks notes* liquor store manager?

A lot of the finger-wagging I see comes from people pointing out that they’re going through this too but as a member of Gen Z I feel obligated to point out that *we and Millennials have never known anything but this.* Less true for the Millennials but still. We don’t have trauma we are trauma.

Bear in mind that the fall of [insert empire here] generally didn’t happen overnight or even quickly on a human scale. Sometimes entire generations (yes plural) spent their whole lives watching things slowly collapse around them. The US has been falling apart for a good 45 years now.

This is what they want. They (rich, power hungry, psychopaths) want us to fight over the boat while they shoot holes in it. Let's all vent, get pissed off and do something about it.

how dare you Faine didn't you know that this would happen, have you not been paying attention to what's going on, why didn't you get in a Time Machine, go back, and find a way to be born in 1962

It certainly doesn’t help that there are people all over trying to drive a wedge between Gen Z and the Millennials. We should all be able to recognize just how much Millennials have been shafted and how much worse it is that it keeps going on. Us in Gen Z are just feeling what you have for ages.

Do people bitching about millennials not have kids? I do. Late millennial/gen Z adult kids, and I see what they're dealing with and how they're coping, and we're helping as best we can but it's not enough and it's complete bullshit and fuck, I'm sorry. 😞

I promise you this never gets easy. No matter what generation you were born. Say anything you want to say. Most of us were not born wealthy & we understand. I’m just glad I was born with a healthy body.

I got permanently disabled before COVID. Luckily had 66% disability insurance via employer (I’d never have thought about). But it’s fixed, no COL adjustments. The past 5 years of inflation took my real income down 25% and now we’re gonna do that again. Fuck this shit.

I got to see three. This is four. Whipee. I will never own a house. And if I do, I will never pay it off. So fun being on the older end of the Y Gen. I am furious.

And also Christ I am NOT saying Only Millennials Have Had it Bad, I’m saying that when people are expressing rage and upset, don’t come into their mentions to tell them to stop whining and that other people had it worse.

People should be _commiserating_ across generations about this shit, & also should be acknowledging that the earlier shit was rehearsal for the later shit, & the later shit is worse because we didn't fix the earlier shit.

kind of a joke (but really just ironic): complained about the '73 recession (biggest til '08) - got lectured by my depression-era parents about eating mayo sandwiches and selling newspapers on the streetcorner at 4 years old. Not going to tell Kids Today to shut up, but I will suggest you organize

When I was 8 my parents sold our house and we moved out to the "countryside." The new house cost pretty close to my Dad's annual salary. The milkman earned enough to own his own home. Today a home costs, what, 13x the average annual income? That seems pretty upsetting to me.

I’m 62. My first house cost 1.5 times my annual income, which seemed like an impossible amount of money, so a mortgage of course. Recently, my home taxable valuation went to 15.0 times my annual income. Can’t see how the young will do it.

I agree. I'm a boomer, no kids but big family, lots of millenials. I've often thought about how my siblings and I benefited from a strong state and surpassed our parents' standard of living. It's not the same anymore because so much has been taken away as they were growing up. Makes me sad.

I'm an X who finds herself in a somewhat millennial position financially due to circumstances that occurred when I should have been establishing myself financially, and I feel for the millennials and our gen Z kids.

Me too. And I agree. I have kids in both Millennial and Gen Z, and they are struggling. I’m still helping them and my aging stepfather. It’s not been easy for anyone since boomers.

Thanks. And you speak for me. Born in 1980, which now may actually be one of the *worst* years to have been born in. Stolen election of 2000, GOP security failures leading to 9/11, Iraq, GOP financial crisis of 2008, trump 1, COVID, Trump 2. & as someone who campaigned for Dems, it pisses me off.

Well I’m not a millennial but express that rage. This is totally fucked and didn’t have to happen. We should all be enraged. I have to wonder at the people who aren’t angry.

What enrages me at this point is that in the earliest days of covid when wages went up, stimulus payments began coming in, and services like utilities and public transit began costing less/offered for free, my financial stability IMPROVED; it felt like we were getting a glimpse of a better future.

And then somewhere in there people in power decided "whoa there I can't be making a low 9 figure salary; I'm supposed to be making a high 9 figure salary!" and started rolling back most of the improvements. And then [gestures at everything] happened.

That was a really weird time - rents stabilized, costs of living flattened, working from home meant that my (limited) social life stopped revolving around work, and no commute meant that I had much more time. I talked to my extended family every week for almost two years. I started playing music.

Millennials as a voting block have more power than the youngest gen Xers who graduated into the bursting of the dot com bubble, worked their asses off at $28k/yr to have their meager gains wiped out in 2008 & now here we go again. But we all can agree that boomers pulled the 🪜 up behind them.

Where is this happening because boy do I have some spleen to vent on anyone talking shit on a generation that came of age literally as all the wheels were coming off all the fucking wagons

And somehow, I got lucky and made all the right career moves and we were actually doing okay. EXCEPT I'm a scientist working for a multi-letter agency. I feel like I made it through all the flaming hoops and then they just doused me with gasoline and threw a match.

If I somehow end up sticking with this as a career through firings and rock bottom morale, I will be in a constant state of alert. I will not be as inclined to get excited, to throw myself into projects with my whole heart. My mental health is toilet emoji.

I’m sorry this happened to you. When pharmageddon hit me in 2011, it took me 3 months to stop dreaming about a threonine on a beta sheet. You never really get over it. People don’t understand. But I do. Bad things don’t last forever. Just longer than we’d like. Keep the faith.

💯 And my great-great-etc. grandfathers fought in the Revolutionary War to end monarchic rule and in the Civil War to end white supremacy, and the idea was that they did it so no one else would ever have to again! Suffering isn’t a GD video game high score to beat.

Sure, the ame grandparents who would hide money under the mattress and stockpile soup because they were traumatized and lost all faith in institutions. Next up: the part where my veteran grandfather would curl up in a ball in the closet and sob himself to sleep every time we had a thunderstorm.

Everything i don't like about Millenials is something Gen X or Boomers taught them. Everything they complain about is something Gen X or Boomers caused. I can imagine they should be allowed to complain about things.

I am so exhausted from this shit. I am constantly anxious because I know they’ll drop the economic bottom out again. Intentionally and blatantly. I can’t build a real life. I won’t make any purchase larger than a laptop. I fucking want to live without holding my breath.

as someone who graduated in 2009 and couldn't get a job at fast food or a gas station please make the financial crises stop

I graduated in 2006 when things were ok but joined the Peace Corps and returned to the states in November 2008. Finding a job (any job) after I got back was ... difficult.

I would love it if Millennials were the first generation not to be like "kids these days!" and actually teamed up with Gen Z and younger generations. Then maybe we could be known for something other than killing diamonds or overdosing on avocado toast or whatever, lol.

As a gen Zer I cannot begin to tell you 1) how absolutely furious I am at generation prior to mine for fucking me over and 2) how absolutely exhausted I am from developing, like, as a person/child in the myriad of crap the boomers have left us in.

Me as a 7 year old kid in 2006: yknow it may have been cool to live during major geopolitical events like ww2 and OH wow the dust bowl during the Great Depression looks neat! Me at 26 now: Oh I see why those things were actually bad.

Millennials have had to grow up post Bill Clinton who co-signed the psychotic policies that Reagan started. They’ve been fucked over several times. They have a right to be pissed, as we all do.

I’m Gen X but my partner is a Millennial. We have this conversation, frequently. I hear you. I’d be furious, too. How may is this now? Three Catastrophic Financial events in less than 20 years?

You deserve outrage. When the 2008 crash hit as my son was graduating I told him you were the screwed generation. Rage is totally appropriate. The moms of millennials are the ones that have to save us.
