I genuinely don't think "Arabs were doing some really important work a thousand years ago" is a good rebuttal to RFK's racism. Tawakkol Karman won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011. Omar M. Yaghi won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2005. Maryam Mirzakhani won the Fields Medal in 1977.

RFK jr is an asshole (but we already knew that). Moreover, he's wrong. Why is algebra called that? Who gave us the digit 0 (zero)? And our current number system? Why is the star Betelgeuse called that, for that matter? And so on.

There sure are a whole lot of "leftists" who think harassing people about the election will convince them to do what they're asked instead of demonstrating the exact reason people are loathe to vote for anyone who takes their vote for granted. Or maybe it's just the dipshit "logician" I blocked?...

Guess I should take some heart in taking pressure off people actually facing elections at the moment, but holy shit. Nobody was speaking formally, but don't bring basic propositional logic to an iterative game theory fight. Actual logicians generally only need that alluded to before they stop.

Day four on the Immigration and Asylum Bill Committee. Today I am opposing the utterly cruel proposal for a ‘Refugee Tax’ for the poorest refugees to pay back support they received, while they were banned from working, to the Home Office.

Trying to remember the last time I gave a tiny spec of shit about an EA-branded game that wasn't them borging a developer they eventually killed.

Allow me to introduce the Arsepull Charter for Ethical Use of GenAI in Creative Industries: 1) Don't 2) If in any doubt whatsoever about whether point 1 applies, apply point 1 3) If certain that point 1 does not apply, apply point 1 then seek help immediately

Oh look, someone at Anthropic decided to watch Terminator 3 for what was incredibly old news to SF writers who could program or sysadmin even then.

This gets said constantly, but it worth reiterating: Games Workshop being bigger than fishing is important to shout about because you wouldn't know it from government talking points, which are rarely about anything creative or artistic. Growth won't involve fish or steel, it will involve goblins.

Have you noticed, lately, or noticed people around you commenting, that there just seems to be no money anymore. There's no money for companies to make the tv shows you like, the video games you like, the local diner you like shut down, no one you know can find a job. Think about that in context of

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

The rush to speculate that asylum seekers are responsible for every crime in the news is a sort of opportunistic informational terrorism. Until it’s disproved it stokes fear and hatred. When it is disproved there are no adverse consequences and they know that they only have to be lucky once.

Feeling cleansed after writing this ashley.rolfmore.com/twenty-thing... Seen so many moans about PMs not getting stuff. I do my best not to be one of “those” types of PMs. Well, turning the tables back for a little cathartic release. How to not be one of “those” software developers…

When disabled people oppose Assisted Dying, it’s almost never from a religious point of view. It’s not because we’re anti-choice or that we want to force people to suffer. We oppose it because society devalues disabled lives and uses these programs in an unethical manner. They become eugenics. 🧵

As a brown migrant living in the UK legally, this is precisely why there can be *no* compromise on the fundamental right of seeking asylum. Pretty quickly it’s anyone who ‘looks’ like an asylum seeker - ie brown or black - who is targeted. No one is safe from this.

If a lEgiTiMaTe dEbATe aBOut iMMigRaTioN leads to people turning up with pitchforks to demand credentials from every group of young non-white men arriving in town, you’d think even Labour MPs would start asking themselves if it’s really a legitimate debate

when conservatives say “facts don’t care about your feelings” you need to understand that it is not meant to say they are committed to facts but that they are committed to creating a form of epistemological dictatorship where no one is able to disagree with their obvious lies.

Saw Coyote vs Acme... Not sure it's better than Who Framed Roger Rabbit? - that's going to take me years to settle on though. Seriously, see it in the cinema if you can: every bit in the trailers is *better* in the actual film!

Someone saw it coming (it'd happened to another film recently) and backed it up. They were made an offer for distribution rights and took it, but WB still made a loss. And the film? Turns out it goes way above and beyond just living up to the premise.

It's being distributed by people who can barely afford more marketing than "edit bits of the film into a youtube trailer". But fuck me does it deserve better, and the people who made it do.

It might sound like I care about this film a bit more than I "should" and... there's some truth to that. If you don't know why: WB nearly wrote it off for tax purposes and destroyed it in 2023
