A bolt of lightning, on a night unlooked for, smote the ancient oak and split it in twain. Long had it stood, a seemingly permanent witness to ages. The sudden fire revealed truth within: hidden rot, a hollow heart, and slow decay beneath its bark.

Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day. Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

October 30, 2025; “Up to 23,500 service members are being readied and trained for civil unrest missions in U.S. cities.” Unfortunately, I suspect we’re about to discover just how relevant this story was over the coming months. And everyone’s just going into it blind. God help us.

Actually enslavers did this. During the Haitian revolution, the French deployed them as part of a plan to eradicate the Black population on the island under Charles Leclerc.

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"

Is there any industry, any field of human endeavor beyond asset-stripping oligarchs and their vulture economy that isn’t actively collapsing? Every institution seems to be run by people who would sell the foundations for scrap, declare record profits, and leave everyone else to live in the rubble.

The evil version of myself that I trapped in the mirror is always saying stuff like "let me out, I'm not the evil one, you're literally holding a skull right now". Be quiet or I'll throw my skull at you

Honestly this kind of character work is what’s lacking in modern Trek. “The crew takes time out of their busy schedule to relax, and learns a thing or two about themselves along the way.” Shoot it right into my veins.

OTD: the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Take Me Out to the Holosuite," inspired by an episode of the 80s TV series "Fame" written by Ira Steven Behr. Turned out Max Grodénchik was the best player in the cast and had to play left-handed to make Rom look bad.

You Can See Everything was definitely my favorite movie of the year, and all the really interesting stuff happened in the second half, so I really don’t want to spoil the surprise! See it!

Conservatives get all three branches of government, the money, the police, the news, but their kids won't return their calls, their screenplays don't get produced, their books rot on the shelves, and everyone hates them and won't sell them pierogies. And that makes them even worse.

Jesse Mac reposted

This is the feedback loop I'm seeing in art and culture, where conservatives have gotten everything they want except friends and acclaim (because they're repellent and artless) and so they get ever more angry and paranoid, convinced that there's a conspiracy denying them friends and acclaim

thene@thene.bsky.social

yeah. it feels like a feedback loop, because if Trumpism is glorying in being an asshole without consequences, it must really ruin the illusion when your behaviour has consequences

Perhaps ironically, Evangelicals are closer to the Christian conceptualization of Satanists than any actual Satanic sect that I am aware of. The pay obeisance to greed, selfishness, hatred, and cruelty, and completely eschew the teachings of Christ.

Said it before, I'll say it again: the grimmest political development in my lifetime is that we went from having old people who remember the Depression to having old people who remember the Eisenhower Administration.

ultimately it's shit like this that makes the decline of birth rates and resulting demographic skewing towards old people self-reinforcing. Greedy, wealthy retired people voting to destroy the funding for public services they relied on throughout their life now that they no longer need them
