Watching Prime Minister Carney discussing the breakdown of the Canada-US trade deal at a press conference and just really appreciating living in a country where the leader can speak coherently and knowledgeably about what is actually happening.

Very proud of Canada standing up for itself. We have competent leadership and they will do us proud. Hopefully we will actually find out how many cards that criminal regime has. It is comforting to know that our guys are playing with a full deck. Expose the fucking pedo enablers and be free.

I am glad he is on our side. You know what he is saying and stays on point. I do feel sorry for my southern neighbours who live in an alternative universe. Cheer up, it will change for you.

He shouldn't have engaged with the Republicans in the first place. I'm tired of typing, so I'm just linking my own posts from now on: bsky.app/profile/debu...

Listen, I don't know why most folks can't see the pattern but I'll lay it out for you; The Republicans - this is bigger than Trump, so stop focusing on him - want to create a hemispheric block in the Americas of compliant vassal states. 1/6

I enjoy how Carney, unlike just about every politician on earth making promises and platitudes, can actually say the word “No”. He can answer a reporters question with No. He can respond to American A-holery with No. The pragmatism with which he wields that shortest of powerful words is refreshing.

The US is acting on personal grievances and feelings. Canada is acting on facts. Very proud we walked away and that we have a seasoned economic professional who saw the threat early and pivoted. Tough times are incoming for most Canadians and businesses due to the criminal Americans voted for.

Never once did he turned to reporters and say “most people don’t know this, but there’s a B in dumb“ Intelligent, articulate and defending Canada, so proud of our Prime Minister🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

After a 2nd (and double) dose of Bush word salad it was so great to have somebody who actually spoke in complete sentences without making up spontaneous hybrid words that didn't exist anywhere. Imagaine what Bush translators really said: "I think asshat is trying to say..."

And Republicans cheer this senile, racist rapist.

Trump notes that Karoline Leavitt just had a baby and says, "I just learned she loves the baby more than she loves Donald Trump, and I'm very angry with her:"

I am frustrated that the unbelievably low American bar falsely elevates anyone in power who is just acting like a reasonable adult. We can and should demand more from our leaders.

As a U.S. citizen, I give thanks for Mark Carney and for the Canadian people. We need you to stand firm against the destruction this fascist regime is bringing upon us and the world. We need Canada to remain strong.

Carney seems like good government! And agreed as your apparent neighbor to the south I am embarrassed for my country every time I hear Carney speak. Eloquent, thoughtful, smart - all things decidedly vacant from the Whitehouse

He is incredibly intelligent. And some of his answers to questions were brilliant in the way they painted a damming portrait of the Americans without ever directly saying anything bad about the Americans.

In two languages! Sadly, he's REALLY good at the speaking, especially when dealing with the USA... but I'm less impressed by anything else he does.

100000%. He's walked back so many things that were implemented or proposed by the previous government, and it's incredibly disappointing. We were so worried about voting in the Conservatives that we re-elected in a party that has shifted to be Conservative-Lite.

He was the right person for the moment, but it was no surprise to me that he's a con in lib clothing. You would think conservatives would be happy, but they're so blinded by party lines that they hate Carney. Makes no sense.

I truly do not understand how it’s not a constant scandal that the president is constantly either completely incoherent, self-contradictory or outright lying; I wonder how history will look back on this time, I can’t think of anything else like it, outside of like, 18th century kings

Also, he's a politician so you take some with a grain of salt, but you can be confident he's not just spewing outright lies and making shit up as he goes along.

Meanwhile, over here we have to deal with the President and Vice President being the middle school bullies who start talking shit about Carney because the deal fell through instead of compromising and finding a way to achieve success.

Yes as opposed to trumps word salad where journalists let him get away with gibberish and him calling fake news for any questions he doesn’t want or can’t answer…

It would be nice if Carney would choose to speak coherently and knowledgeably about the climate crisis. He has done it before, but now . . . gibberish about pipelines fitting for a Timbit Trumper as the country burns

I never thought I'd live in a country where I find myself rooting for other nations to stick it to us. The guy in charge here is pure evil and purely incompetent. Make him pay, Canada! We'll suffer along with him (probably worse), but it's a good feeling to see someone stand up to the bully.

If even half of what he says the Americans tried to force into the deal at the last second is true, it's insane. Like, we can quibble on Carney's policies and priorities, but he wouldn't say they threatened sovereignty if it wasn't true.

Yup. Gee, who to go with? Aside from any other consideration, do I go with the guy with a BA in ECON from Harvard and an MA and Ph.D. from Oxford, who worked for Goleman Sachs, was head of the Bank of Canada, then the Bank of England, etc., etc. OR the guy who couldn’t pass an ECON 100 mid-term?

You have no idea just how incredibly envious we are. I can’t even listen to the guy people here voted (or stayed home not voting) for. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ I love Canada. I’m so sorry for what you guys have to deal with thanks to us. 😞 We’ll make this right…eventually.

“Is the national leader talking like someone who would be capable of convincing a bartender that he can handle another drink, y/n?”

Used to be “Would I want to grab a beer with them?” and now it’s this. “Would the bartender whisper to their coworker, ‘Ugh, that guy’s back’ when he enters the establishment?”

Hopefully Canadians will keep in mind that many Americans vehemently oppose what Trump is doing generally and to Canada specifically and are doing what little they can (which really is limited to voting, political contributions and, for the able bodied, demonstrating) to stop him.

Like I’m not even factoring in the ability to switch reasonably fluidly between English and French. Just seeing someone making coherent sentences in any language at all is … quite the contrast.

Would you believe he wasn't that fluent in French before he ran for PM. A lot of people thought this may ruin his chance. He learned the language for the people. His first debate was awesome.

I read his statement - which was not a social media post - and was impressed by his proper use of capitalization and lack of name calling. Must be nice to have an adult in a leadership position.

Didn't he only start brushing up on French after he became leader of the Liberals, too? If memory serves he was self-admittedly VERY rusty at the best when he became PM. I do kinda love how there's an unspoken expectation that our PMs learn both official languages.

In any normal election year, the Liberals would have been my third choice. It wasn't a normal election year. Not delighted with all his domestic policies, but the biggest problems we have right now is the US and the rise of right-wing hate, and he's been pretty good at that.

PM Mark Carney stated that Canada walked away from final trade negotiations with the United States because the U.S. attempted to restrict Canada's protections for its culture, languages, and sovereignty, alongside trying to limit Canada's freedom to strike independent trade deals elsewhere. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
