Having given it a few months, I've realized Bluesky, while it's a valid platform, is not for me. Hear me out, because what I have to say includes things most of you need to listen to. TL;DR incoming, but you might learn something. 1/14

Oh, and I know what you're thinking; entitled undereducated white woman. No. I could use university level diction, but I choose not to. I long ago understood that writing to impress rather than communicate is stupid. 13/14

My parents, animal rights activists, nonetheless brought me up with a cultural understand of hunting and fishing. I can shoot a gun and write code and I've got a natural eye for decor. Raised pagan. I don't care about genitals (do like tits tho). I'm mixed heritage in language and race. 14/14

None of us are perfect in staying focused on our core principle. I did the 'lesser evil' thing too; I saw the real danger of a CPC win the Canadian federal election and advised folks to vote for the least conservative candidate with a chance of winning in their riding. 11/14

I voted for a Liberal, because that was who could win. Do I regret that now? Yes, but I also would have regretted throwing away my vote had there been a close CPC win in my riding. But the landscape has changed. Poilievre is cooked. The LPC has a juggernaut of centre right to left support. 12/14

I'm seeing progressives flip to support for PM Carney because he walked from a predictably fake trade negotiation. What are you people doing??? This is some Platner support level bullshit. 9/14

Carney is the most conservative PM in most of our lifetimes, he's shredded Canada's regulations to promote investment from the worst people and industries, most of them from outside Canada. He's selling our country. He's meeting rightwing conservatives in the middle, eroding rights. 10/14

I am not someone who shields the person knocked to the ground, I'm the one who tells them to get up and fight dirty and teaches them how. I tell them to get over themselves and deal with reality. That's hard, both for the person hearing it and the person delivering the message. 7/14

Maybe it's because the revolution we commies are fighting for isn't one that's likely to happen in our lifetimes, at least not until we're old and feeble, that causes the divide with progressives. Different timelines, similar but different objectives. 8/14

Maybe my happy place being the average Bluesky user's nightmare stems from my interests skewing blue collar male coded. I like deathmatch pro wrestling and MMA. I'm comfy hanging with guys who do the whole banter thing. The dark woke crowd - who I shit on at times, btw - are more my speed. 5/14

I'm a communist, which puts me to the left of 99% of you. We commies tend to be more, er, aggressive? There are core principles we try not to deviate from whereas progressivism seems more fluid. We want many similar things. However, I find you folks as frustrating as I expect you find me. 6/14

I spend a LOT of time confronting pure assholery on platforms that allow us to fight. That's my domain, not the land of cowardly blocklists. I compartmentalize my online life; hobby sites that skew rightwing? I don't need that and I'll walk. Getting into it with a Twitter fascist? Yummy!!! 3/14

I actively involve myself in rightwing spaces because I want to know what they're saying, not hide from it. Knowledge is power. It's better to be in a position to act first rather than react. 4/14

Bluesky is soft. Yes, I know that softness is what many of you came seeking, but it's suffocating to others. Maybe it surprises you that a woman would say this, but the rise of authoritarian boss babes should indicate we aren't all the same, not even under the (too) big left tent. 2/14

So now leftists are just going to forget all about everything Carney has done - from rolling back climate regs to slyly making US military purchases - because he walked away from a predicably false deal. The left is talking like the libs and centrists. Fuck this. Grow a spine, babies.

American media - including the independent side - is ignorant about Canada. They do not understand why the latest trade talks failed, what was proposed, why it mattered, how their government follows an 11th hour insane demands playbook in other talks or what the Canadian politicians represent. 1/2

They continue to platform the wrong Canadian politicians without knowing their alignment and views, ignore the key issues, frame it all as Trump being a baby, call it a win for Canada, lack any context for why we arrived here and don't realize Carney came to the table an economic conservative. 2/2

Listen, I don't know why most folks can't see the pattern but I'll lay it out for you; The Republicans - this is bigger than Trump, so stop focusing on him - want to create a hemispheric block in the Americas of compliant vassal states. 1/6

It works like this; keep adding increasingly punitive demands and then, near the end of the deadline, drop insanity on the table so that the other side has to walk. Then the US says they tried, but the terrible people they negotiated with didn't want to "make a deal". See Iran for the template. 5/6

Carney thought his conservative, pro industry remaking of Canada would please them enough to allow an "economic and security partnership" that didn't amount to annexation. He should have know better. I mean, I'm nobody sitting on her sofa with a wise and vengeful cat and I saw what was coming. 6/6

Canada, and other countries in the Americas, is expected to grant the US control of all foreign policy, trade deals and domestic economy. Essentially, be a non-voting state. 3/6

The negotiations were a charade. When the Republicans want something important, and aren't just seeing what goodies they can pressure other states into giving them, they follow a recognizable playbook. 4/6

They expect these vassals to provide unquestioning support for the US at international forums and grant the US exclusive access to resources and any other assets. They want complete control of the hemisphere as they realize they cannot control the globe and fear the rise of other powers. 2/6

"The suggestion that Canada would not trade with other countries or reduce our trade with other countries ... would reduce us to the economic equivalent of the 51st state," Eby said. And there it is. That is not a serious request, it's an announcement of annexation. 1/2 www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

cbc.caU.S. trade demands aimed to reduce Canada to equivalent of 51st state, B.C. premier says | CBC NewsPremier David Eby said that his government would support Canada's counter-measures in the wake of an escalation in the U.S.-Canada trade war.

As I said, the Republicans had no intention of true negotiation. It was a waste of time, a charade, and Canada should have not been dragged into it. Carney sought an "economic and security partnership" not US control Canada's over trade and relationships with other countries. 2/2

Ok, I'll take that dare. The Republicans don't negotiate when the care about the outcome. Instead, they continue to pile on insane requests until the other side is forced to walk. This is how they negotiate 'peace' with Iran and it's how they discuss trade with Canada. 1/10

I'd take public ownership of natural resources and infrastructure. I'd enhance funding for national creation of generic versions of patent-expired medications, reinvesting any revenue in domestic medical research. I'd invest in drones. I'd ensure Canada has our own nukes as deterrents. 9/10

I'd protect Canadian media from foreign ownership while strengthening our digital laws and taxes. I'd tax the rich proportionally. I'd invest in housing, creating a federal homebuilding initiative. I'd adapt to changes and setbacks as they came. And then I'd hope for the best 10/10

I'd invest in green tech. I'd import heaps of Chinese EVs to ease the transition away from fossil fuels. I'd subsidize higher education in STEM fields to prepare Canadians for new tech. I wouldn't let foreign investors build AI data centres in Canada. 7/10

I'd invite foreign engineers, medical professionals and scientists to work at our universities and hospitals. I'd give them realistic, subsidized and rapid ways to certify in their fields, allowing them to get right to work at what they do best. 8/10

Life is going to get hard, at least for the next few years. We have the combined hit of losing the US market and climate crisis. The international economic and political turmoil resulting from both will hit every nation, but Canada is among the vulnerable thanks to our isolation atop the US. 5/10

I'd tell Canadians this, trusting that my country isn't full of infantile minds. I'd directly confront any opposition party that tried pretending the US was a reasonable and safe partner. I wouldn't go around making "pragmatic" deals with other authoritarian messes like the Saudis. 6/10

This means unquestioning support at international conferences, exclusive access to resources, unlimited US investment and ownership of national interests, military alignment and support, US veto on trade agreements, and a promise to shift domestic policy towards rightwing authoritarianism. 3/10

Hence, there would be ONE meeting. Just one. They could put their offer on the table and we would do likewise. Then we wait. And move on with reality as it is. That reality is an ugly one. Our primary trade partner, and geographic neighbour, is now an unstable country with nukes. 4/10

Knowing this, I'd call it before ever opening talks. I'd make it clear to them, to Canadians and to the global financial system that I understand the game and know the real point of it all. The US wants the entire hemisphere as compliant vassal states. 2/10

Hey, Libs - Trump is NOT the problem. He's a figurehead, a symbolic king. The Republicans don't make deals when they want something important to them. They pile on demands until the other side walks. Carney's economic/policy alignment wasn't enough; they want a vassal state, not a partner.

The US has a pattern. Negotiate but continue upping insane demands until the other side walks away. They do this in war as well as trade. If a deal is made easily, it means it was unimportant to them. Carney should now know being an economic and foreign policy ally to Republicans isn't enough.

"Last-minute changes in the U.S. proposed terms were unfair, uneconomic, and called into question the reliability of any deal," Carney wrote in a statement. Well, of course. That's what they do, and it's what they've done in every negotiation that matters, from trade to war.

There are many, many people who work in industries that cross over with AI development, live and breathe tech, have years of tech education and experience and still aren't pleased with the current AI standard. I have tried AI tools. They rarely help me. I'd rather do the task correctly myself.

Someone explain to me why my PM, Mark Carney, is tearing apart Canada's environmental regs and announcing pipelines when LNG is the tiny circle in this graph. Meidas Mighties, LPC pragmatic centrists, and CPC rightwingers not invited. I want intelligent answers.

In 2026, #solar generation is set to rise by around 600 TWh, matching last year's record. That puts it on track to become the world's second-largest source of renewable electricity this year, ahead of wind for the first time. #ActOnClimate #ClimateActionNow

This. NAFTA was the first betrayal. I want the Canada I see in vintage media, the one where we controlled what looked like a bright future and weren't vassals to the world's largest corrupt MIC and consumer society.

Here’s the thing: I don’t want free trade with the 🇺🇸Nazi USA. I want 🇨🇦Canada to detach itself from that rogue state as speedily as possible and go back to the way things were before Mulroney entered the original FTA. Suffer the pain we have to suffer, stick up for one another, keep calm, carry on.🍁

Today, the Meidas Mighty Carney Cult pushed me to posting the old Brit press Carneys Relax with Ghislaine Maxwell pics. Half the LPC superfans are bots and agitators, true, but the rest are actual Canadians who refuse to see they're spiraling into a lib maga. I don't know how to reach them.

Reminder that while we're drowning under information overload as our politicians flood the zone to deceive, scare and demoralize us, people are still being harassed and are still dying in Palestine.

I get into it occasionally with UFC and WWE fans who refuse to see their favorite entertainment as a propaganda vehicle for rightwing policy. Unsurprisingly, it's always the same people who say we have to separate the person from the drama; longtime fans of folks like McGregor(UFC) or Benoit(WWE).

(1) There will be much talk about this article in terms of politics. But the singular most important quote of it is this: “And the whole point of this is to change Canada’s behaviour,” Vance said. “Which they, you know, not entirely, but they’ve certainly shifted in a Trumpian direction.” #CDNpoli

I tried gentle encouragement to look at policy. I tried being confrontational. Nothing works. The cult built up around Carney is unreachable. Every criticism is a troll or a bot, every suggestion that he isn't who they think he is becomes a personal insult. They are liberal maga.

"Because Trump" or the more euphemistic "because the world has changed" is the favourite thought-terminating cliché of Carney supporters. Offer any evidence-based criticism of any Carney policy & you will hear that these unusually dangerous times require it. But he's making us *more* vulnerable. 🧵1/
