I'm going back to Mastodon. I'm tired of having a minimum of one dumbass reply "I have no clue what you're talking about" every time I make a post.

The mass migration is good regardless yeah, but that will be a thing for a bit with people trying to fill up there feed with what they think want right now

I'm just going to very uncharitably reply "fuck off and learn to Google" from here on out. I'm tired of being nice.

It's starter packs. I had a bunch of people follow me thinking I'm going to spoon-feed and dumb down every post because I'm in a journalism starter pack and are then astonished when they realise the reason these bizarre impenetrable posts are in their timeline is because they in fact follow me.

Which is wild because you can just unfollow people? I got a bunch of stuff I didn't want on my feed from spacks too, but if an account put a ton of it on my feed I just unfollowed it. It's not their fault I followed them!

the level of social media illiteracy has shocked me (and I mostly escaped the big starter packs 🙏) Like people don't understand that follow-back spam gets you a lot of spammers in your timeline? That posts aren't crafted directly to the reader? We need like an onboarding quiz

Well there's this thing about how the internet is full of humans and that's really the core problem of the internet

Am sorry to hear this. I enjoy your posts here. Am hoping there are settings to explore for Replies that reduce this issue and make it easier to stay. Other than restricting replies to an instance, I’m unsure Mastodon will be better with similar follower count

Understood but not what I meant, sorry. I was trying to say that if you accumulate followers on Mastodon, what’s stopping the same issue from repeating given their Reply options. Maybe it’s better for that but I doubt it.

all the tech starter packs I got added to definitely made things worse, I’m suddenly the welcome committee for so many people who try and pull my every word apart. and I can’t even get off the lists 🙃

@mastodon doesn’t have an account here (and the link doesn’t open the app) but are they any closer to solving the ‘prove you’re a person without begging to be doxed’ equation? Or is that equation still treated like alchemy?

💜 If you do come back this way, I’ve found the notification filters very helpful if I’m getting overwhelmed. I don’t know when they added that, but it helps.

I'm sorry you are having difficulties and are considering leaving. I've never had to deal with this kind of thing so I can't offer more than kind words. Are there people in your network who are more used to this kind of "popularity"? Perhaps they can share some techniques?
