Currently resisting the urge to gripe about things I didn't miss

Cookies & Cream ice cream though - that's still great here. And seeing Ben & Jerry's at grocery stores for less than 7 € each is a real treat

After about a year, on and off, I am veeeery happy to release TWINKLEPLOP, a syntax highlighter of tremendous power! The speed of prism with the customisation of Shiki. twinkleplop.pngwn.at

Well this is nice — macOS 27 quietly slipped this in Make your screenshots ~10x smaller with avif defaults write com.apple.screencapture type avif; killall SystemUIServer

I haven't seen this published anywhere. So of course the AI results from Google definitely say it's definitely not possible.

av1 / avif screen capture on macOS 27 definitely works though!

I just used RubberDuckGPT. By the time I finished dictating the question, I knew the answer. zero tokens burned.

We'll continue to be amazed by the things we can 'create' but I'm worried it's going to be even harder for people to recognize how to take an existing solution and adapt it (even if it's 1000x cheaper)

Also “this vibe coded app could be a spreadsheet”

Lea Verou, PhD@lea.verou.me

“These five paragraphs of Claude’s PR description could have been a sentence” is a the new “this meeting could have been an email”

I convert all my screenshots to it for ~10x smaller files and no real noticeable drop in quality (yet)

Millions of eyes seeing lighting fast charts built with Svelte today, as the most popular site in Sweden (Aftonbladet) is showcasing the Swedish election results with Svelte + SvelteKit! #svelte #javascript

While traveling, it's always been a fun challenge to see how much I can get done with various limitations. Of course it's much easier now - the wifi is decent enough that I could reliably work with agents on my hetzner vps via paseo.sh

…For media, I gave up on Plex a long time ago. Even now it's a pain to get things to work offline. An SSD is just so much simpler, faster, and more reliable.

News acquisition ongoing: @ducklabs.com joins AWS. @duckdb.org and the Foundation stays as is; only the team moves to AWS: > We are not acquiring the DuckDB project, which will remain free and open source under the independent DuckDB Foundation and available under the MIT license as it does today.

.@ducklabs.com is joining Amazon Web Services (AWS), expected to be effective by early Sept. This move gives DuckLabs the resources and reach to bring #DuckDB, DuckLake, and the Quack protocol to many more developers and orgs – while keeping our commitment to OSS Read the full announcement here:

I’ve been using my own daemon manager for ~6 months and it is actually published, but with a disclaimer… I haven’t invested any time into solidifying the api & code beyond getting it to a ”works good for me (most of the time)” state. Named it after a character from Demon Slayer

These won't start hitting YouTube until next week, but figured I'd give an early release for people following this account, since they've been answering the questions that have helped make this happen 🙂 My very first guest was @nerdy.dev

As someone who sees how AI is used in organisations vs by individuals I can tell you that most problems organizations have are caused by the organizations and not the technology. Orgs are top down structures. Decisions are made at the top and bottoms are not allowed to decide anything.

I find a lot of why ai contributions can be overwhelming is because people have lost the concept of _incremental change_. Every PR is a bag of changes, or from zero to 100 in one go. I'd rather have many manageable PRs than one kitchen sink PR

I did a coding exercise yesterday for the first time in a long time. It took a bit to unclog my brain, but I have to say I actually enjoyed it.
