tinyps 0.5.1 🚀 Added a new function to get ancestors of a process. If you use ps-tree, find-process, etc - you can consolidate them by using this package instead, and at roughly the same size or smaller
we released chokidar 6.0.0 yesterday 👀 this was a pretty big rewrite by Paul which fixes a whole bunch of flakiness and Windows problems. the main win for me: that pesky EBADF error goes away now that it supports recursive watchers! 🎉

TIL node has a built in way to strip typescript types 👀
couple of updates to maplint so it can now be used programmatically to validate sourcemaps! thanks to @jonkuperman.com
you can find it here if you haven't seen it yet, please do check it out! all feedback will be helpful 🙏
A new text encodings library, iconv-nano, was posted in the @e18e.dev discord. A day later, the author (Jeremy) is collaborating with @hyeseong.kim on making it ~80% smaller! 🤯 Always impressed by how e18e has managed to join up people with knowledge in such niche subjects 😄
not too long ago i joined as a maintainer of svelte's acorn-typescript plugin 👀 i missed hacking away at ASTs and parser stuff 😄 has also been super nice working with @baseballyama.bsky.social on modernising a bunch of it 🙏 always a joy to collab with the svelte team
i wanted a more modern colour library, so i've created hueful! 🎨 - Convert between colour spaces - Stringify a colour in a space - Parse a colour string - Manipulate colours (e.g. lighten) This does the same job as the `color` lib & much more, without the weight of `colorjs.io`
All this is to say what looks like a basic dependency update might actually be a huge change in disguise. Review your lock files, your install size, bundle size, dependency count, etc. Check the new versions on @npmx.dev - it can even diff them. Look closer 🔎

As part of this, vitest also adopted the Human Voice AI contribution policy from ai-policy.dev 🤝 It's unfortunate the PRs have to be locked down to known contributors, but the vitest team are approaching it well here 🙏
We are updating our AI Policy to reduce maintenance stress. All pull requests are now automatically closed, unless they are created by maintainers or users from an approved list of contributors. The PR is not lost. If the team decides the change is worth pursuing, we will reopen it.
chai v6.3.0 🎉 a few bug fixes, and now published via staged publishing 🚀
tinyrainbow 3.2.0 🌈 - hex colour support (`colors.hex('#303')`) - rgb colour support (`colors.rgb(51, 0, 51)`) - perf improvements (fastest in many cases now!) ❕ If you support a new enough Node, remember you can use `styleText` (built-in!) instead

New blog post on zena-lang.dev: Designing a Programming Language for the AI Era zena-lang.dev/blog/2026/09... Includes why I think a language good for humans and WebAssembly is good for AI, and why Zena is a project that's optimistic that humans have a place in software development.

I've been helping out @43081j.com on github.com/43081j/tangl..., and wanted a way to prioritize what to work on. I had an assumption that repos on Tangled, who have GH workflows but not yet Tangled workflows would be great candidates. So I did a quick script that goes through repos on Tangled...
Today we're launching ai-policy.dev! A collaboration of me, @danielroe.dev and @matteogabriele.npmx.social - this provides a few human curated AI contribution policies you can choose from. Our hope is that this will help you better define your stance and what kind of contributions you accept 🙏
looking forward to seeing all the great people of the atmosphere again 💙
today we released a new library as part of tinylibs: tinyps ⚙️ this exposes a few utilities for dealing with system processes. you can use it to list, kill and find processes amongst other things. check it out and let us know if anything needs improving! 🙏
was bugging me that update-notifier is 1MB+ so i made an alternative if anyone wants to use it! nano-notifier is ~275KB much of that is from clack, which itself is used by many of the consumers of update-notifier already, so will be de-duped.

understanding is the one part of software that still runs at human speed. that's not a bottleneck. that's where we're still needed. i wrote about why open source gets to choose its own pace.
