Ultimately, we face too much daily spam from non-paid users that make it hard for our small team (me, @baer.works) to do much of anything besides fight them off. So temporarily closing Free accounts is the easiest way to slow the tide a bit. I'm sure we'll open up Free accounts again in the future.

Rather than stay on trash sites that will not be named, I've been building out a social space for my arts stuff with a combination of Bsky and simple blogs at @write.as It's pretty good. A little bit of that web 2.0 feel.
