@doctorow.pluralistic.net — I see that you're going to be on Vancouver Island in early November in the Comox Valley. I work in community media and I've been considering a story on the event/enshittification more broadly for our newsroom. Do you have any time for an interview?

When it comes to actually achieving better cities, here’s something we’re not talking about nearly enough— we’ve moved from eras where it’s hard to get good things done, into an era where even if we manage to get good things done, there’s a real risk it will just be reversed after the next election.

Not at all surprised that ChatGPT uses this kind of language to discuss a combat shotgun because this is just how dudes post on the gun forums that the model trained on
This is absolutely deranged: Months before murdering 6 people and injuring 27 more, ChatGPT told the teen school shooter in Tumbler Ridge, BC that using a Remington 870 pump-action shotgun is “brutal” in a “hallway, indoors or a crowded classroom” because “close quarters” is that gun’s “playground”
Congratulations to Angine de Poitrine for their 2026 Polaris Music Prize win. Incredibly well deserved!

The CentreBC party, which essentially agreed to let Milobar and his coalition of eight MLAs take over their party four days ago, is now big mad that all of them (with the exception of Elenore Sturko) seem to be returning to the Conservative fold Unclear what their political capital is now though

Live from YYJ, it's a Tuesday Afternoon Election call? www.youtube.com/watch?v=uV4j...
Another local elections piece by me. Get out and meet some candidates tomorrow evening and pick their brain on where they stand on environmental and climate issues.
“50 per cent of Canadian emissions are actually influenced at the local level." Voters wishing to attend the Nanaimo Climate Action Hub candidate forum should arrive early to the Beban Park Social Centre Tuesday September 22nd. The event will start promptly at 7:00 p.m. and run until 9:15 p.m.

Obama: “Imagine if I had pulled Fox News’ credentials from the White House press corps. You’re laughing, but this is what’s happening. It’s unimaginable that the same parties that are silent right now would have tolerated behavior like that from me.” Clip courtesy @meidastouch.com

Election signs are now up Nanaimo! John Little has been working on sign crews since 1984 in Nanaimo, the region, and even in other provinces. “As you can see, I just asked people to come out, and today we had 14 people come out,” he said. “It's amazing. If you ask people to help, they will help.”
Who's this "Barbara Dave" on @chly.ca on this @intheredcanada.bsky.social program? Makes me think of that song "Barbara Anne" song.

A world of cinema is set to be a boat ride away next month. The Vancouver International Film Festival kicks off October first. The lineup was released last week and features 256 films from 76 countries, in 83 languages. We check in with Glen Grunau, president of NIFSS about the event.
Take our survey! Took me long enough to put it together, so I'd be stoked if you filled it in.

The idea that some BC Conservatives have that if only they could purge the "liberals/Liberals" out of their party—which is a coalition at its heart, a "big tent" as they say is bizarre. It's a losing strategy in this province.
JUST IN: Áʼa꞉líya Warbus has quit the B.C. Conservative caucus and will sit as and independent. She is the 7th MLA to leave the party this month citing concerns with Kerry-Lynne Findlay's leadership.
Pour one out for Tim Curry, he's now up there, in the big ol' Muppet Treasure Island in the sky.
If Americans don't even realize they have a trade war with Canada, I have *no* idea what cause this absolute chucklefuck thinks this is helping.
