The way AI startups are just sucking your data and trying to sell it back to you reminds me of what startups were doing back in the blog era of the early 2010s. It stinks. tedium.co/2026/10/27/a... new @tedium.co

My ex kept her college syllabi and she had one for a class on post-9/11 cinema and I’m curious if it discussed this series at all (despite the first one debuting before 9/11).

I had never heard of these books and as the essay notes this type of thinking wasn’t necessarily new in far right circles but these books certainly helped play a part in further seeding the soil for mass fantasies of revanchist violence

I THINK one of the things we're really seeing is a continent, maybe industry-wide shift away from full-time employees and towards gig/codev work. And that transition looks like layoffs across the board even from studios that just had big successes.

Look, I know all the reasons we got here, but we really need to start seriously thinking about what we do in a world where The Markets punish whole countries for voting for decency, compassion, and fairness. We must stop pretending the capitalist machine is an objective, value neutral force.
It's very, very telling, I think, that the markets are so concerned about the pro-democracy incumbent winning
This is the type of essay I really love and the type of thing I really wish institutional places with more resources (Atlantic, NYT, even Slate) would do more often yet they don't for some reason. So I had to start a site that talked about this kind of stuff.
To innovate, a genre known for protagonists escaping reality must begin to think more deeply about what "escape" means and its implications www.typebarmagazine.com/beyond-the-f...

“Fixed” games (that is, referees or players acting in the interest of self-enrichment via gambling) are likely already commonplace but they will become harder and harder to hide. Eventually they just won’t!

This is what Love Lies Bleeding got right about the 80s: everything in the 80s wasn’t neon and bright colors and crazy prints. Everything was fucking Brown
That's the bit everyone gets wrong. They try to look like the 80s/90s and they pick whatever was in fashion or what was on TV show sets at that time. Most people lag about a decade behind whatever the furniture and decor trends are because they only buy stuff when they need to replace them.

ive talked on how i wont engage with writers who use ai, i wont eat at a restaurant with an ai menu, i wont have anything to do with it. but what this post illustrates is regardless of how OTHERS react, ultimately the worst part about using ai is that you are punishing YOURSELF and dont even know it
