And the first episode is live! Please send feedback! I’m going to consult the community about everything from post date to topics and would love to know what you think.

The first episode is live! I dig into the mission of the show, talk about the security vulnerabilities that hit last week, give an update on my switch to Linux, and take some listener Qs.

I think the most accurate thing I've heard about the AI industry was when we had @willsmith.fun on Engadget's podcast and he said that the first truly transformational AI product will probably emerge from the wreckage of the industry's first crash

the sound that this alien probe makes in Star Trek IV? literally Leonard Nimoy going “wub wub wub wub” into a microphone

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

I spent the last couple of days trying to get Davinci Resolve starting again after I updated my Linux PC to Noctalia v5. It wouldn't even get to the point that it was hitting logs, just a "log4cxx: Please initialize the log4cxx system properly." I just accidentally fixed it by running it as root 🤦‍♂️

Something a bit more personal than usual: For the last 10 years my dad has been struggling with a version of ALS, a terrible neuromuscular disease. He's kept up his spirits by making photo books chronicling his life as a photographer+traveler. I'm helping sell them now to pay for nursing care:

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Multiple things are true here. This is a fascist, authoritarian administration. It has not yet fully consolidated power. Some of its efforts to do so have been frustrated. Trump is a doddering, confused egomaniac who started an unpopular war that's costing everyday people a lot of money.

Spent our day off today taking a shelter guy out for an extended hike. This is Morty. He’s an excitable but friendly and well-behaved pup.

Toby is absolutely terrified of tape measures. He flips out anytime someone uses one near him. Maybe it makes a particularly awful sound that only he can hear (due to his enormous ears). I don't know how to fix this one, but it's obnoxious.

One of the things that I love most about playing PUBG is that the game, by necessity, has a lumpy skill distribution. You fight pros and also people who are just starting out. But being opportunistic and sneaky means that you can beat someone that you’d rarely be able to take in a stand up fight.

Almost as soon as Americans started being able to buy automobiles—when they were powered by electricity, steam, or gas—a few industrialists realized that if everyone owned an internal-combustion car, those people would have to rent infrastructure forever from companies that sold gas and built roads.

The stupidest part of this is that we had some minor success with early weighted models and instead of asking “How can we make this work better on less powerful hardware?” we skipped right to “we should turn every atom in the solar system into comptronium!”

AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP. Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down. "AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago. We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.

If I was ever on Jeopardy, my fun fact about me would be that I play terrible free-to-play as aggressively as possible in order to see how good an offer to buy in with real money I can get it to give me. Once I’m confident I’ve gotten the lowest offer, I delete the game and never touch it again
