I feel dumb even just having to say this but the reason passports are mailed out in plain regular envelopes is that so that people do not attempt to steal easily recognizable passports in the mail. bsky.app/profile/carn...

I love that the U.S. government now has ideas so dumb that the fact checks are simply “yeah this isn’t a parody, it’s real”

been thinking a bit about people doing all sorts of upscaling on old games with prerendered backgrounds and it hit me that it would be kinda fun to use the extra resolution to make them look worse in interesting ways instead, like trying to make the it look like a scanned 90s game mag screenshot

You have to get rid of the position of the president. This is a known failure case of presidential systems; eventually you get someone extremely stupid and/or dangerous in there, and it turns out that they have direct control over the military, and Congress doesn't have any real oversight.

Imagine setting up a booth at the Game Developers Conference and putting up a giant banner that looks like this. Look at this AI shit. I'd be so embarrassed I would change careers #GDC2026

Currently helping an elderly family friend figure out if an email is a scam (which it obviously is) and hey, people who make mobile email apps, it's a dark pattern to not make the email address of the sender visible without needing to click on the little arrow thing. Just thought you should know.

Oops. Turns out Persona, Discord’s age-verification service, was secretly screening selfies against government watchlists AND accessible by the feds. It's backed by Peter Thiel. “The state wants to see everything. The corporations want to see everything. And they've learned to work together.”

The headline does not convey how completely batshit this story is. The Archive Today (archive.ph etc) admin weaponized the site's captcha to attack a blogger who wrote about them and *altered archived screenshots* as part of the attack. arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...

arstechnica.comWikipedia blacklists Archive.today, starts removing 695,000 archive linksIf DDoSing a blog wasn't bad enough, archive site also tampered with web snapshots.

This is one of my favorite primary sources in our library: a contemporary review of E.T. for Atari 2600 in the rare newsletter The Logical Gamer. Their review is basically "It's meh, but jeez Atari sure sank a lot into P&A for this game. This seems bad?" archive.gamehistory.org/item/f2f37ee...

This is where I think there's parallels to the '83 crash. E.T. performed reasonably fine, but Atari invested so much into it that anything other than the biggest game ever would be a failure by *their* metrics! That's not the game's problem, that's management's problem

An underappreciated point which I think got forgotten from older discourse is that one of the primary reasons ice needs to be shut down and abolished is that they are indistinguishable from random vigilantes. And that is why now we must all act to protect people.

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports. And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.” Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.
