Just saw this amazing image of Tetsuya Chiba holding omnibus 4 of Kodansha USA's English release of Ashita no Joe. I can't help but see his face & imagine he's thinking "Took you Americans THIS long to finally release my manga in English, huh? Well, better late than never." RIP

He's resting his feet on the painting of the footrest. The real chair is as painterly as the painted chairs. I think it's hard to overstate how brilliant this photo is.

In my base model, 2027 revenue is $108.6B, but that's still producing only a 5.1% operating margin. Their upcoming contracted compute is really expensive! Anything but a bull case for them makes their IPO (and even their Series H) way overvalued.

FWIW, Anthropic admits its current margins may not be representative. There's a bit of lucky timing here: big revenue growth while on the tail end of cheap compute contracted more than a year ago. Their future compute is... not so cheap. (1st pic their S-1, second are my graphics based on S-1.)

The unit economics here are frankly shocking they're so good. This is wildly stronger than I expected tbh.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Yacht owners will be living in a Far Side cartoon where the whales are all “Hold on, these things just crumple? Have they been like this the whole time?”

andré carrington@andrecarrington.bsky.social

I kind of love that both sperm whales and orca have got the memo about attacking yachts. Imagine the little antifa orca clique finding out somebody from a different *species* thinks your tactics are not only justified but commendable? And it's not humans? There's no way they're going to stop

This is stunning news. Bauza was *ubiquitous* in American animated film and TV--he has 422 separate IMDB credits, and most of those are for multiple roles on a single show. And with good reason; he was extremely creative and a superb mimic.

And again, it's worth noting that this happened despite Lula being an incredibly flawed candidate. His son and some of his key political allies are embroiled in genuine corruption scandals. He's 80 years old. Crime is incredibly high. But he's won despite those flaws. There's a lesson in that.

Congrats to Lula on overcoming Mark Zuckerberg and Donald Trump to defeat Hospital Pervert Jr., even as his opposition literally blocked off roads and turned off bus service during election day. Fascists are scary but they are always, 100% of the time, ultimately gigantic fucking losers.

Brazil extended voting hours in lieu of the attempts at voter suppression seen today. We'll know the results soon enough. I hope for all our sakes Lula wins.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin ordered a nationwide two-hour extension of voting in today’s presidential runoff, moving the close of polls from 5pm to 7 pm Brasília time.
