This an interesting example of a map that uses a non-standard layout. Often, one deviates from the north-is-up-and-view-is-orthogonal layout to make a map fit better in its frame or convey height, but in this case it seems like the creator sought to emphasize landscape at the cost of readability.

I was bummed to see the bump track disappear from the Lake Hiawatha & Minnehaha Pkwy tennis court but now i'm thrilled to see it just moved to the former 34th Ave S & 47th St E court! So fun to be able to just drop in 🔥

We are at the 5th straight week of double digit percentage drop in pending homes sales for the Twin Cites. You can also look at where rates have gone since end of August.

don't listen to wealthy volunteers who are trying to talk about neighborhoods where they don't live and that they don't understand. plus, their wealth is what enables us to only have a centrist newspaper covering this area and no more progressive alternative! taylordahlin.com/f/110-grant-...

I think of this in terms of sinks: suffering (and financial liability) flow from higher elevations outstate toward the Cities

Delighted to see a preview of my article in the upcoming issue of The Minnesota Archaeologist, correcting a zooarchaeological misidentification from early in my career. Those aren’t mourning dove bones, they are extinct passenger pigeons!

My first visit ever to Mia was to see my own art hanging in a gallery. Getting 3rd place in the largest crop art class was an incredible enough honor on its own. Being one of 31 pieces selected for Cream of the Crop feels like a dream. I will never get over this. Thank you @artsmia.bsky.social!

I keep thinking about how most of the census records for 1890s are gone because of a fire. There is so much I don't know about my family just because of one measly little decade's missing data. Now apply that to what the current administration is doing to the US datasets.

The thing that's infuriating about our squeamishness about consequences for traitors and corrupt officials is that we are one of the most punitive countries in the world in most other respects.

Funding for our parks and the very financial foundation of Minneapolis are jeopardized because police spending is out of control. To avoid a reduction in our credit rating and future park service reductions the Mayor and City Council must take action to rein in spending. Please read and share.

First came the trains, then came the apartments, then came the breweries, then came the food halls... Another long-abandoned property was taken down today. The Stone Lab building at 421 29th Ave SE was once used by the University of Minnesota for environmental health research.

We've somehow managed to make it a quarter of a century with this silly hobby project. Thanks to everyone who has helped make this happen - crazy hackers the world over, the wardriving community, and everyone who loves to see the RF spectrum come alive.

Why does it seem like the only new retail businesses in MPLS are cannabis shops, salons, or tattoo shops? Bc biz want to keep rent at 5-10% of gross sales, and at $3500/month in rent (a pretty average price in high foot traffic areas) you need $1500+ in sales EVERY DAY if you are open 6 days/week

Outside of downtown specifically, it was interesting to see that some areas whose council members advocated for data centers have almost no eligible locations in their wards, while those of us who advocated against data centers are having the data center overlay proposed in ours.

Congratulations to Lila Smith and the neighborhood! Few people have the tenacity to work across 15 years while managing volunteers, at least three property owners, and 1.5 governments.
