When they talk about Policing toilets? There’s a serious point about the cops being a greater risk to women than trans people have ever been that’s totally missing from mainstream discourse:

It’s fairly clear most people don’t appreciate the escalation in language, so here’s a comparison of when AG Bonta went for the mat for trans kids and refused to let a hate group dress up theirs as anything other than discrimination. 2023. Notice the framing difference compared to today’s ballots.

None of these anti-trans initiatives and referendums are about granting rights— all of them, every one— is about taking them away. Imagine feeling like the whole country is trying to decide if you count as fully human, and mustering up the courage to go to school. I promise you are not that brave.

I haven't completely read through all of it yet, but the initial statement of "Homophobia is a colonial import" reads to me like saying "Patriarchy/Misogyny is a colonial import", whichs just sounds frankly ridiculous to someone with even a modest understanding of world history

Sure, Western Colonialism imported their own *form* of controlling of populations, but that doesn't mean that they don't have their own ways of policing their underclasses or that they didn't have those underclasses at all, just that their own potentially differed from those set by colonial powers

In 1992 Olympics Zhang Shan entered an open skeet event and beat all the men, winning gold. The following year women were not allowed to enter. When women's events were brought back the events were segregated and the targets placed at a different distance so that the results could not be compared.

This is reinforced not just at events but elsewhere too. Women training to be competitive athletes must accept inferior training resources, spaces, coaching access and support, funding for the best amongst them to succeed and find their limits like men do.

Women don't get to participate in sports but instead are relegated to a fringe of "women's sports" which itself is heavily gatekept and bordered to make sure the boundaries are clear.

Every women's event in this framework therefore becomes an inferior cousin of the Real Sports Event which by definition is for men. Women's achievements only get funded to show how much better men are, or as a side hustle to milk cash from superfans, rather than part of the main competition.

Structurally there's no reason for this at all. The Olympics manages to have men's and women's events side by side. World athletics does too. But in team sports and many other areas there's this insistence that any women's event that happens must compete with rather than run united with men's events

valinde.bsky.social reposted

The real unfair competition women are being forced into with men is having women's sports constantly separated off as a distinct event which is made to compete commercially with much better funded and socially and institutionally enfranchised men's sporting events & found inadequate by that standard

I think people are misinterpreting the Erika Hilton reducing the work week in Brazil to 5 days story because I think a lot of the story here is about why the PT didn't do this in any of the SEVENTEEN YEARS they were in one form or another in power until Erika Hilton, Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

Trans people are fighting to keep rights they had ten years ago—in 2016. It is not the same as fighting for rights in the first instance. So please I beg of you, knock it off with this “purity test” horseshit.

Mike@doa70.bsky.social

You know, the purity tests when trying to change society only make things worse. Im old enough to remember the fight for gay rights starting in the 80’s. We didnt change hearts and minds by demanding 100% adherence to everything. It came by increments. All you are doing is helping the magats.

What these politicians are doing when they put out dumb transphobic ads or say dumb transphobic things on stage is that they're weakening the movement either out of personal bigotry or out of doing incorrect electoral math, and they really should get shit for it.

Solid reality check to be reminded that outside the internet trans lesbian bubble, even people with careers writing on trans issues get to just say this kind of nonsense about us

JGP has theorised that it's the existence of enbies like me who have destroyed trans rights. But I know I spend every waking hour trying to fight for my community – whilst she is apparently out here calling the trans sisters who came before her "heterosexual transvestites".

Without History@withouthistoryband.bsky.social

Your politics are largely dictated by who you seek community with. Trans academics seeking their place in the academy and cutting themselves off from community with other trans folk do this shit for the same reason stealth or stealth aspiring trannies do it. To show the cis they can be trusted.

what does it say about the national party that there are candidates running on the dem ticket buying ads saying that some people are technically subhuman without reprimand or even comment. would you abide that for any other group or is this one special

(for this post i’m doing an impression of a woman that’s been hit in the head very hard with one of the big swinging pendulums they use to test material hardness) you don’t understand. MOST democrats AREN’T running anti trans ads

valinde.bsky.social reposted

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

YES!! Cis people focused on pins and email signatures. Cis people declared "the trans tipping point" was here. Cis people decided Caitlyn Fucking Jenner is "queen of the trans." Cis people started the bathroom arguments, the sports arguments, the transition arguments. We're just trying to exist.

Sports got chosen because they're a really good way of keeping people fantasising about trans bodies, being a communal space for embodied being.
