In the last few weeks i've been bombarded with emails from people who have minor tech support problems. ChatGPT is telling them to email me, writing their emails, and compiling "evidence packets" after convincing them they have stumbled on a major story: www.404media.co/chatgpt-keep...

404media.coChatGPT Keeps Telling People 404 Media Can Solve Their Tech Support ProblemsBecause big tech doesn't do customer service, we are being inundated with AI-generated emails begging us for help.

Read this now: "Just as a private equity firm buys out a corporation and strips it for parts, the consultant class installs friendly operatives, charges fees, raids the party’s long-term assets, and gives strategic advice that ultimately serves itself over the long-term health of the party."

newrepublic.comHow the Consulting Class Is Eating the Democratic PartyFundraising costs gobble up most of the funds raised. Billions are spent on TV ads that have virtually no impact. Candidates may win or lose—but the consulting class always wins.

Speechless. This Turek ad is such a punch to the gut. Way to stick the landing at the end right in our backs. I hope everyone who capitulated, collaborated, or otherwise used us as electoral chum knows nothing but blistering shame the rest of their days, and I hope we survive long enough to see it.

I have tried my entire adult life to convince other staunch leftists to suck it up, hold our noses, and vote anyway because harm reduction matters. But I feel ridiculous doing it. How are we supposed to tell people the parties are different when they’re running ads saying “no we aren’t” all week?

Oh my plans for next Tuesday? Am I going to vote? Sure. Then I’m going to take two Benadryl at 9pm, fully confident that in 12 hours no matter what the magic paper says nothing about the country will have changed whatsoever.

If you aren’t instantly reminded of the history of forcing indigenous children into residential “schools” and the roll of family separation in the machinery of slavery, you are not looking clear-eyed at the present moment.

Sen. Wyden said Donald Trump is putting kids at risk of falling into "horrific cycles of trafficking" and the new ICE facility for unaccompanied children in Louisiana "will be another black box location for the Trump administration to disappear migrant children" www.thequeenzone.com/new-ice-faci...

Immigration enforcement in the United States has always been a racist project of white supremacy. There’s never been a time that it was good or just. At the same time, these pieces put together recently paint a picture of a growing worldwide virtual oubliette that should chill everyone’s blood.

This was somehow a flash in the pan headline in all the chaos last week, but throwing out there that at this rate this would be in the vicinity of 50k people vanishing from the face of the earth over the remainder of the term. And this is before they use that newly allocated $75B to fully scale up.

found out that my mother in law decided she was aggressively pro trans rights literally by going, I don't know anything about this but everyone who is against trans rights is also against free school lunch, the issue I know and care a lot about, so this must be the correct way to feel about this

I try to imagine it—hearing a vicious, down-is-up simulacrum of my lived experience wielded as a tool & a weapon, every single day, on the heels of all the other ways, implicit & explicit, I'm dehumanized by my society, culture, & politics—& I can't. I only know how it looks from here, & it's vile.

AI firms want you to believe their fraud bot is alive so they won’t be held responsible for the fraud bot’s crimes. But there is no gray area here, they hold the on/off switches in their very human, very prosecutable hands.

totally unrelated can I borrow like $500 for unrelated non-tattoo reasons that definitely aren’t me getting more tattoos

Spooky Big Dad@spicybigdad.bsky.social

As @kimkelly.bsky.social once said to me: once you get your first tattoo, your brain recognizes you as a “person with tattoos” and any barrier to getting as many more as you want for any reason completely evaporates

Distractions are designed to draw attention away from something else, not towards the object of alleged distraction. The right wants anti-trans hate to be a permanent central fixture of their policy which centrists are glad to facilitate. Concretely this means that any ground ceded is gone forever.

The idea that there’s evil hiding under the surface that they’re drawing attention away from is facially false. They sold merch at a concentration camp in Florida, with pressers and a guided tour for the media. The evil is not only apparent, it is a dominant feature. It appeals to a lot of people.

Ultimately the only way to meet the moment is to recognize that hate is all three: their brand, belief system, and policy blueprint. Even their fiscal policy is predicated on a worldview that sees most people as disposable and unworthy— starving the poor, gutting healthcare, ending humanitarian aid.

Not surprising. Pregnancy makes it harder to escape an abusive relationship. But let's be clear: this is by design. Republicans have no hidden that trapping women with men who beat or even kill them is the point. jessica.substack.com/p/abortion-b...

So deeply grateful to every cis person, especially women, speaking up right now while others throw us to the wolves. It’s desperately needed medicine for the soul.

G. Willow Wilson@gwillow.me

Fellow WA voters, let's bury this. I can't imagine any parent wants to subject their child to this vile "examination."

The reason it’s so noxious when people in medicine and public health legitimize MAHA is that they take for granted that meaningful opposition is already forfeit. When someone tries to have it both ways they’re shocked when the rest of the scientific community pushes back, but these are the stakes.

BK. Titanji@boghuma.bsky.social

My biggest lessons from this is that, many voices calling out unethical research still have the power to prevent harm. The global health community came together is solidarity and in advocacy to speak up on why the proposed study was so abhorrent. This was amplified by health journalists.

This line slays me: “The minister of health in Guinea-Bissau, Quinhin Nantote, previously denied that the project would move forward. ‘This is not even remotely true,’ Nantote told the Guardian in Portuguese last week.”

This is central to the scandal that's occurred in the UK (and now elsewhere). Institutions with decades of purported commitment to increased community involvement in research and healthcare going quiet - or worse - when transgender people were excluded and talked over.

Amazing news. Wild stuff happens when you actually talk to people who need this care. "...the court found the Government failed to adequately consult those affected by failing to consult on the substance of the regulations and failing to directly consult with gender diverse young people."

"the clear message is that what is happening to you is a second-tier issue—that you don’t really count" Great piece. Gulf of America is a distraction. The JFK Center and that fucking ballroom are distractions. Transphobia, queerphobia, and racism are at the core of the project.

Precisely this.

If you consider the dehumanization and attempted erasure of at-risk communities a distraction from "kitchen table" issues, you really need to take a look at who's setting your table.

The NHS Guidance on trans people in hospital will protect zero women but will badly harm trans people. What a hateful disgrace and will be remembered by future generations as a stain on us all.

We've reached the "product placement inside attack ads" stage of capitalism in South Carolina. Ad features a woman at a gas station where gas is approaching $6 a gallon, asking Grok why groceries cost so much.

Meta nearly died as a company. Instagram is what kept it afloat, not Facebook. It’s designed to market products, surveil users and harvest data, and increasingly to sandbox dissent into ineffectual performance. Let it die.

When people say “I use it to push back” or “we can’t let them take over the platform” they simply do not understand the threat model, and are actively helping the far-right. They are the problem, too.
