If you thought the Conversion Practices Bill is already bad thanks to all the loopholes and allowances it provides, then don’t worry - it’s about to get worse. The Government are hearing “evidence” from anti-trans campaigners Helen Joyce, Dennis Kavanagh and the LGB Alliance this week.

I genuinely thought this was about the Brazilian election, but no, it's about... Bill Maher. This is madness. We're looking it right in the face.

I am a genuine introvert who has to be extroverted to a degree for my job and also to put myself out there for things I believe in. I wish it was easier. Feels so exposing every time, when I’d really rather just be in bed reading a book or watching TV while the baby sleeps across my chest.

As she did last night for my breaking bad and Fargo rewatches. She’s also disappointed in this season of UK Drag Race. “I can’t tell Flesh, Alik and Naya apart!” says my five month old.

It’s pretty funny to be called “elite” for supporting trans people by a cigar-smoking, champagne-swilling, yacht-owning billionaire, but hey, why shouldn’t we all bow to the opinion of someone not trans, not queer, not a doctor, not a scientist, but who’s really really rich?

We’re now in year seven of JK Rowling playing the victim and finding pseudo-progressive justifications for bigotry. Not an interesting thought in her head

My lovely orphan show premiered ten years ago today. So proud of it, love these actors so much, and by episodes 6-8, we were flying. Alas, the BBC Three online experiment at the time was… not great. Would that there’d been two more years. Still a lucky man. What an experience.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

the idea that empathy is dangerous has been permeating right-wing spaces for a while, but it's not an actual element of their ideology as much as it's a defense mechanism against confronting the reality of their cruelty

You wait for one open letter, and two come along at once! Some great names on this New Statesman statement. The support from this and the 800 who've so far signed the authors and illustrators statement is quite heartening. And it's pissing off the most unsurprising people.

I genuinely think being on Twitter alters your brain for the worse. Like crystal meth. There are barely any humans there, just that torture film from A Clockwork Orange, the only difference being you’ve pinned your own eyelids open.

Just TERF novelists on Twitter being perfectly normal. Amanda once claimed my family would have “transed me” growing up and Lissa takes time out of her busy day to write tweets solely to make fun of non-binary people. Perfectly normal, human, empathetic behaviors.

The lengths TERFs go to pretend not to understand something is quite something. If you pretend to that stupid for that long, you’ll inevitably end up actually stupid. Also note the homophobic “creepy” regularly leveled by right wingers at gay men. I’m not the one obsessed by others’ genitals.

I once wrote a “hero” article about Martina for the Guardian. I used to admire her so much. But she’s fallen down that rabbit hole where all she can hear are the bots, AI accounts, and Russian posting farms affirming her descent into trans panic and hate.

Tom Holland is not in fact naked in Chaos Walking. We digitally erased a thong.

We all know the "Viggo broke his toe" story but what's another movie fact you're personally compelled to bring up every time without prompting? For me, it's the fact that Robin Tunney is wearing a wig in The Craft because of having just shaved her head to save her job filming Empire Records.

Really, I can't state this strongly enough. If you can't handle having a queer or trans child, don't have children. And if you are a queer or trans young person, as much as it might hurt, if your family can't love you for who you are, there are better people who will.

Currently 738 signatures. And all the expected people sneering about it over on the other place. Success, I think.

THE DISAPPEARERS really is that good. In ambition, execution, polyphony, history, guts, heart, sex and life, nothing else on the booker list touches it. And WHAT a tonic to read a masterpiece about gay men by an actual gay man, and not someone else using us as therapy sex puppets. What a writer.

The NHS Guidance on trans people in hospital will protect zero women but will badly harm trans people. What a hateful disgrace and will be remembered by future generations as a stain on us all.
