If he had been alive then, I'm sure Matt Yglesias would have been awfully fun at parties in March 1933.

I think this becomes quite understandable in the context of an international fascist movement that has swept much of the planet in a decade, with horrifying and very extreme consequences for the entire species

A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

helenwebberley.comAre transgender sports bans really about protecting women? | Dr Helen WebberleyThe data says no. Those most hostile to women are most in favour of banning trans athletes.

Joshua Turek's support of a ban on federally funded insurance from covering health care for trans people, reminds me a lot of the Hyde Amendment, which has prevented federally funded insurance from covering abortion care for the last half-century.

The lesson here is that once a law gets passed preventing a vulnerable group of people from getting necessary health care, it can take more than half a century to repeal it and restore that access.

We must fight against Democrats who want to take away trans health care just as we must fight against Democrats who want to keep women from getting abortion care.

Listen here, trans people, you NEED to VOTE for this shitbag who doesn't want you to exist because the REPUBLICAN will be WORSE because he will *checks notes* do the same thing but GOPier!

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

interestingly this interest in black voters doesn’t extend to the republican effort to deprive them of federal representation, nor do they seem interested in asking whether republican candidates are burdened by the fact that trump talks like a klansman

People who think embracing GOP hatred of trans people is the only way for Democrats to win in that part of the country should remember that in 2025, John Ewing became the first Black mayor of Omaha NE by running this ad. He beat Republican incumbent Jean Stothert by 12 points.

I’ve been on X the past couple days, posting a few things about Rowling, which drew “interest” from her fans. A few quick observations:

Billie Jean Sweeney@billiejsweeney.bsky.social

Rowling *never* writes about women’s rights, workplace discrimination or the threats to women from predatory men. I tracked her posts for five months: Well over 200 hateful transphobic smears. Not a single post about women’s actual concerns or needs None

Turek’s stance is cruel, electorally misguided, and out of step with his own party. Most swing-seat Democrats *have* stood with us, but keeping the trans community’s trust requires Democrats—and, at a minimum, LGBTQ+ organizations—to call this bullshit out.

Jesse Singal thinks there's a world of difference between "trans activists" and "ordinary trans people," and that the latter deserve respect & protection. He has never stopped to ask how "ordinary trans people" will ever get respect & protection without "trans activists" fighting for those things.

We can both stridently condemn the GOP's despicable use of Amy Acton's history as a victim of childhood sexual abuse to further abuse her and also condemn Acton for her choices to aggressively insult & demean transgender children and support laws to strip trans children of their equal rights.

A reminder: LGBT folks aren’t an “ideology” or “agenda.” We’re people. Some of us are talented. Some of us are nice. Some of us are weird. Some of us are annoying. Some of us do bad things. But we all deserve to thrive in a society that doesn’t force us to justify our existence or debate our rights.
